I'll get the colors for you that I've used. Which grey were you talking about though? In the Pantry? I've gone with several different colors now. The pantry and closet were both painted with one of the colors I had bought back in November 2019 but decided against using in the Kitchen and Living Room. I believe it was meant for the kitchen, since it was an eggshell, and the matte color was for the living room. I'm pretty sure that there is just a hint of green in it that probably isn't evident from the photos.

The accent color for both the kitchen and living room, which is by far the darkest of all the colors is called Antique Pewter. That's the only one I know off hand. The other 3 walls in the living room are a 2nd color, the other 3 walls in the kitchen are a 3rd color and now the closet and pantry make for a 4th color. Aside from the Antique Pewter, they're all fairly similar with just some subtle differences in shade for a different feel from room to room.

But again, I'll say that I wouldn't recommend this line of paint unless you're patient and don't mind painting a room 3 times. The price was right, and I believe it will actually hold up to washing really well, but it's a lot of extra work. I can get you the names of the colors, but I'd recommend if you want to use them that you find the closest matching color in a higher quality of paint.

Aside from cooking, I've been keeping up with housecleaning and the odd random small project. Since it's been so hot the only thing I've been doing outdoors lately is watering, but my windowsill herbs sprouted. Also, have a largish indoor plant, taller than me, but the pot was in a 1.5 X 2.5 flatish tray (originally from a large birdcage). Turns out that the pot had legs that kept the soil from soaking up the water, and since its in an unheated room the water wasn't evaporating and got a good head of white mold on it. My next project is burnishing the bedframe and putting a light layer of mahongany stain on the plywood aprons to match the birch ply to the beech frame (which has a more rosy tone) so hubby can FINALLY finish it. I've already tried the staining on scrap lumber so I know it will work well.

But, many more doctor's appointments this week, so first watering (so the plants don't croak), kitchen cleanup and the every three-week housecleaning./b]

I got the contact paper off of the other 9 shelves I decided to keep from the pantry. There's no way I'm ever going to use them for anything until after I get a chance to power wash them in the lawn in the spring though. I'd be lying if I said that they were were as bad under the contact paper as the floor under my stove was, but not too much.

Once you started peeling some of them they smelled like food. Rancid food.

The only stuff under there that was identifiable was rice grains and human hair, but I won't even go into what else lay beneath the paper. It will all still be usable for garage shelving, but it needs a good washing.

In any event, I think after doing that we can mark today as the day that I finally got all of the filth from previous owners out of the house! Only took 11 years.

Just taking a break from cleaning around the house right now while I wait for the wood putty to dry. I'm going to have to find a place to put all that rebate stuff until the rebate clears too because with all the shelves on cardboard in my Living Room it's so chaotic in there right now and I'm getting sick of looking at everything. At least the old pantry shelves are out in the garage where they need to be now.

At the home stretch on the shelves now. Just have to give the final coats to the tops of them. I'm waiting longer than I probably need to before I do it though because I didn't give the last coat enough time before the flip and there is some minor scuffing happening from where the shelves rested on my paint cans that are covered with paper towels for protection.

I may or may not wait another day and get the contact paper on them either tomorrow or Sunday

I'd post pictures now that they're finished, but it really wouldn't show anything since my camera isn't really high def and despite how great they look IRL with two finish coats of paint, the pictures don't really show much of a difference. Just imagine the primered pic above but a bit shinier.

I'll throw a pic up when I get the contact paper up and install them. Tomorrow or Sunday.

I'm also going to use 4 to 6 of those little rubber cabinet stoppers underneath them as legs to go on the baseboard runners so we don't have any paint on paint action. Never a good thing in a house that can get a little humid during the summer to do that. If I want to take them out for any reason or the future owners do, they won't be ripping a bunch of paint off in the process.

Well I already looked at the bucket for you. The color is "Sea Frost", and it's in the Pittsburgh Ultra line of paint at Menards. At least with that, you can grab the right color swatch and match it to a higher quality paint.



Like I said, I think the paint will hold up beautifully once you get it up, but 3 coats is just way too much work. The only reason that I don't mind so much is because of how much of this stuff I got for dirt cheap with a huge rebate a while ago. It's also great practice for me. I think I'd like to maybe start painting on the side some day. It's a low stress job that I enjoy doing.

I was thinking that maybe the batch I'd bought during that rebate was just bad, but sadly no. The bucket of Sea Frost was from November 2019, nearly two years earlier and it still required 3 coats over a primered wall.

That being said, I am still a HUGE fan of the white HIGH-GLOSS enamel in the Pittsburgh Ultra line. It's around $28 compared to only about $16 for the flat paint in the line when they're both not on sale.

In case you missed it, I didn't do the bottom two yet because I want to buy the correct soft-close drawer slides for the bottom two shelves so you can pull them out to the front of the pantry to rotate stock of things like canned goods. It's why the 3rd shelf from the top is shorter. The top shelves are just shy of 25" deep, and the 3rd shelf is 17".

Whenever I am ready to sell, I'm going to be asking top dollar for the place that the local market will allow though. I actually put the feet on the bottoms of the shelves and put them up to air dry in the pantry instead of drying on top of the paint cans. Even snapped a pic. Glad I did because with the dark of night outside it really looks cool with the motion sensor LED light hitting it and the shadows it makes.

I try to talk to her about old things now when we talk. About what she thought of the world when she was young. She's really my only opportunity to hear about what somebody thought life was like during and right after the Great Depression. I wasted that opportunity with all of my other grandparents.

I actually don't mind doing my own. Paper and mail is the way to go, even though they penalize you and hold your return hostage for an extra month or two if you mail it.

When the government allows you to do simple forms and electronically file I'll make a switch. But I'll be damned if I have to sign a 30 page release form full of legalese allowing all sorts of private information to be sold to other companies only to go through a process that is intentionally made difficult enough that many people will just quit and pay somebody to do it for them.
