And thinking back to where you used to live... some dark, dank hole ... now you are warm and dry and your landlady doesn't hate you. Got the back corner of my neighbor's garage propped up for the season with a solid pole jack and some temporary braces screwed in. We could have 30" of snow on top of it and it's not going anywhere now. I was kind of hoping that we could straighten it out today and wrap it up because it's only a garage, but the roof was fighting me every step of the way and doesn't want to move from its new home. Going to need some time and persuasion to do that, and the dead of snowy winter isn't the right time for that. It will be fine until spring now though. His father in law was there this morning to install a new service door too. That ended up being a much larger project than he thought it would be going into it (like everything always is), but we got it in there good now. Come spring time, I'm going to go back and replace a few of the other plates that are bad for them too. My prognosis is that the garage will be fine and we got to it just in time. I wasn't expecting nothing for it, but they gave me a gift card. A brand new one in cardboard with the sticker still on it. They didn't tell me what's on it and I didn't ask. Maybe it's a nice surprise? Time to enjoy doing nothing for the next 40 hours. Do Right, Be Right. :)

Quote:As for me, I'm slowly going through paperwork. My ADHD and form-filling dyslexia definitely make it difficult. But that's what phone help is for I guess. For people like me. I've come to realize that's how I manage a lot of things - I just ask them to tell me what I need to do. But since I did a lot of this a year ago, when I went online and grabbed a bunch of old files, I'm just catching up on a few things now, plus cracking the more difficult tasks I had put off. (And jeeze, I must have had a lot more concentration back then! And somehow back then I wormed my way deep into websites to pull stuff out that I can't worm my way into this year.) Tomorrow I'll be back at it.

Quote:Originally posted by SIGNYM: So, the GREAT news is that my heart works great. Not "great for a person my age" but great for a person of ANY age. My ejection fraction is 68% ... "awesome", in the words of the doctor. I looked it up online: normal ejection fraction is from 50-70%. They STILL don't know why it's so arrhythmic. I flew a couple of ideas past them that they didn't think were worth pursuing. They want to do a couple of tests and I will be vastly surprised if either of those show anything. But in the meantime they're going to give me a beta-blocker which supposedly make the heart less reactive to adrenaline, and the even better news is that there's no problem with me doing even heavy-duty (for me) yardwork even if I feel shitty bc I won't be damaging my heart. In fact, they encouraged me to get aerobic exercise because that also re-sets the heart's response to adrenaline. ----------- Pity would be no more, If we did not MAKE men poor - William Blake #WEARAMASK

Looks like my buddy's old man needs some help doing things around his house. He heard that I'm quite good at helping people de-hoard their houses too, and after he saw what I helped his kid do with his garage I think he decided it's time to de-clutter his own life too. Quote:Originally posted by SIGNYM: Over at this end... I finally, FINALLY can get back to my happiest chore: yardwork! After my heart started stuttering Oct 14 (yeah, it began that suddenly) I did some yardwork here and there but it triggered so many Dr visits (same-day xfered to ER, blood test, Ziopatch, stress ECHO, cardiologist, followup sleep study ... I still have to finish 2 more night of recording and return the equipment) but now that I have the news that my heart is not only Ok it's GREAT ... just kinda uncoordinated... b'day is over, T-day is over, ALMOST ready for Xmas .... new med ... I can get out there and start working again! YAY! That's my happy place. There will still be the daily/weekly household chores, andI still want to get a (very small) tree and put up lights, but my schedule has been freed up so much I'm really looking forward to working again! I've set aside the backyard winter veggie garden for now, since it was so terribly delayed, and put the seeds in the frig where they'll keep better, and focus on finishing the front yard so that it doesn't require so much work ... ie, eventually getting to the final step of putting down weed seed preventer and mulch, but I have many steps to do before that. But still... as I sit at the table and contemplate the upcoming next few days ... I don't have a schedule jammed from AM to PM, with nothing (it seems) to show for all of the busy-ness. ----------- Pity would be no more, If we did not MAKE men poor - William Blake #WEARAMASK

I thought they were just busy or because of the lockdown and stuff but my boss told me no and what happened. This is one of the biggest potential pitfalls about getting contracted work done on your place, sadly, and why I'm really thankful that most of the stuff I can do on my own already or figure it out... The inclination is to shop around until you get the lowest price. A lot of times that will actually work out well for you. But many times the lowest price is either because of a lack of experience on the part of the contractor, and not necessarily that they're shady or purposefully cut corners. They under bid. They put themselves in a position where they would hardly make any money even if everything works out 100% perfect (which it never does). Unless Canada's laws are different, your boss probably doesn't have a case and he's wasting his own time and money here. If I were the contractor I'd just walk away from the job completely at this point and leave your boss with busted out walls and let him pay somebody else to do whatever he wants done now that it's all exposed. What have you done today to earn your place in this crowded world? :)
