Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

Wasn't paying any attention at work, so it was a surprise. Newly surfaced parking lot doesn't drain worth a poo. Almost flooded out my engine in the parking lot - twice. And then also 8 more times on the 4 streets I took getting home. Anyway, I did learn something tonight, about the morons of our Government. Apparently my phone service provider allows some entity to not only put text alerts about weather on my phone ('cause when I'm mobile - and outside - I won't be able to notice if is raining), but also to keep the display lit up while you're not using the phone, until you pick up the phone later and find all of your battery power drained. This is an excellent plan for when you get stuck in flooding waters and find you have no battery power to call for help - like an EMERGENCY type situation, and these fvucktards have robbed you of your emergency resource, so you can die. These are genius-level azzholes. Somebody should just shoot these people. Where's a psychotropic victim when you need one?

Hard rain fell for about 5 minutes then it didn't rain the rest of the night and the wind was gone. Some people I work with that live about 30 miles east of me said that their power was out and trees were ripped out everywhere. I didn't hear about any tornadoes though. Do Right, Be Right. :)

Not too many warm ones left for the season. :) Give yourself a birthday present and just tune out of the news for the day. The hate that is being sprayed everywhere else in this forum right now is so tangible that it reminds me of the goo from Ghostbusters 2. Do Right, Be Right. :)

Quote:Originally posted by 6IXSTRINGJACK: Quote:Originally posted by Brenda: I hate freakin' spiders!!!! Just killed another one this evening walking on a bathroom wall. Until I can afford the Orkin Man, the spiders are my tenants. They generally keep to the basement, and they're BIG. I don't know what they're eating to get that big, but I never see anything else after I took care of the ant problem, so for now they're paying their rent. I was worried when I first saw them that they might be brown recluses, but they're wolf spiders. They're fearless. They don't use webs and camp out in the middle of a room and just chill there for hours without even moving until they spot food and then they're like lightning. Fun fact: In the movie Big Ass Spider, they used a wolf spider in place of a Brown Recluse in the first scene of the movie when the exterminator ended up in the hospital with a bite. Guess they must have figured that we're too dumb to notice the difference and it was a lot safer for the actor. Here's a cute video about a Wolf Spider... or probably the closest thing to cute that you're ever going to see when it comes to spiders. Do Right, Be Right. :)

Kind of reminded me of the story of the Lion and the Mouse. It doesn't sound like you're arachnophobic though, and you've just got a healthy aversion to spiders which is good. I'm not aware of any poisonous ones that live that far north, but if you're ever in doubt you could google it. I lived in my grandma's basement for 6 years at one point, so I know all about it. I always let the spiders live because unlike some other basement dwelling bugs they didn't bother me psychologically. I find millipedes and earwigs to be terrifying, for example. I'm not sure why the millipedes bother me so much, but I know the earwigs bother me because of an especially creepy rerun of Night Gallery I saw when I was an impressionable youth. If you can get over the aversion of spiders, they'll be the only critters down there with you until you get out of there. Do Right, Be Right. :)

Regarding spiders, have you all tried Hedgeballs? They're cheap.

Quote:Originally posted by SIGNYM: SIX, thanks for the info on wolf spiders. I think I've been killing them because I thought they were brown recluse, but after your video is just HAD to look up the difference and now I know for sure what brown recluse look like. We DO have them here, some people have been bitten by brown recluse. But the spiders that we really have to look out for are black and brown widows ... I see them (and their egg-cases) around all the time.
