When you're young, you talk about school and people of the opposite (or sometimes the same) sex. When you get married it's the kids. The house. The kids. As you get older, it starts to be about your health issues. Your aches and pains, the medicine you take, maybe even the procedures that you've had, and your friend's health. At some point, you start talking about your friends and family who died. My sis, she does this great Polish babcia (grandma) imitation ...You know Stella on the Nort Side? The one whose daughter left for Chicago? Yeh, yeh, the one who married that nice man from Cincinnati? Well, she died... ***** What I noticed is that as I get older, my bedtime ritual gets longer and longer. It used to be that I'd shower, plop into bed, sleep like a log and wake up refreshed. Now, I have to take a shower, put steroid cream on my many many skin inflammations, take my pills ... for heartburn and blood pressure and aspirin for arthritis, brush my teeth, rinse and spray my nose and put on a nose strip so I can BREATHE at night ... set the AC to a temperature that I can tolerate, and MAYBE I'll sleep for all of 5 hours at a stretch, if I'm lucky! So there you are, SIX! That's life when you get over 65-ish! ----------- Pity would be no more, If we did not MAKE men poor - William Blake "The messy American environment, where most people don't agree, is perfect for people like me. Well, as people here sometimes tease each other ...Was it hot enough for ya?? BRENDA, what the heck are you doing that you can skin your elbow like that? I always imagined that you would be doing something delicate, like working in a bookstore or something! I didn't do any gardening today, altho I DID spend two hours yesterday digging up more grass and weeds from the front yard. Tomorrow, I think I need to soak the Fuerte avocado again, it's looking terribly stressed, and then spray the backyard with Neem oil. It does seem to be doing the trick keeping the mites at bay, but I'll also order a double batch of neoselious californicus and hope that THIS time they can keep the mites down on a continuing basis. I haven't been going to the farmer's market for almost a year, but I'm STILL watering that parking lot tree! Looking back I see I started with an emergency 4 gallons, and have graduated to 14 per week. The tree is so happy it actually pushed out a few blossoms, but I sure wish the property owner would fix the irrigation system! ----------- Pity would be no more, If we did not MAKE men poor - William Blake "The messy American environment, where most people don't agree, is perfect for people like me. Got the OK from my manager to work an extra hour on Friday night into Saturday morning so I don't have to waste an hour before I can go and get the tires ordered for the cheap sale install. Looks like my 3rd week out was jagged up on the schedule again, but at least this one and the next were right this time. Progress... Mentioned it to my manager and he said no problem we'll take care of it tonight. So next week I should have the new tires and windshield installed. Just need to figure out if I'm going to do the breaks myself or if I can find a cheap place to do them. I'm also going to be calling my step-sis about getting my teeth all yanked and getting those dentures. I'm done with em. As good as I'm feeling right now, I can't imagine that I won't feel twice as good when they're out and the infections that lie underneath my gums are gone for good. I'm actually going to ask about how much it would cost to get a 2nd set... yanno, my "goin out" dentures. I'm not sure how well they're going to clean up with the smoking and the coffee, so it might be nice to have a 2nd shiny set to wear out when I'm getting dressed up for something. :) The great thing about doing it right now is I think it shouldn't be a problem having them done on my first day off and recovering before I have to go back to work a week later. I probably won't even miss any days. So my car will be fixed and my teeth problems should be over very soon. If Step-Sis wasn't yankin' my Step-Dad's chain, I should still be up over $2,000 in the bank since I started working after all of this is done. Maybe I'll have A/C by next summer. :)

I flooded the trees and my garden. The trees are showing nice healthy new growth, the veggie garden is still struggling. So yesterday I sprayed all the undersides of the various plant-leaves that I could reach (to knock the mites down), and today I sprayed whatever the hose-end sprayer could reach with Neem oil. I also ordered a bottle of Amblyseius fallacis for the veggie garden, and two bottles of Neoseiulus californicus for the avocados. I think I better flood the trees at least once a month, so early September and early October would be the next scheduled irrigations. ----------- Pity would be no more, If we did not MAKE men poor - William Blake "The messy American environment, where most people don't agree, is perfect for people like me. Strange thing since I'd never seen one before that and I haven't seen one since. They must do a real good job at pest control there, because I'd think the environment would be perfect for rats to set up shop. Got some extra time at work again today, but my feet started to hurt again after two longer than normal days so I didn't push it with 4 more to go. Big manager today told me he wished I had more days available so he could put me on the remodel crew. He only wants people who know how to "merchandise". Good to hear, but there's no more pay in it, so it's not for me. I think when winter comes around I might start looking for a better paying job. I'm not seriously looking to go anywhere else because I've made this a pretty good gig for myself, but it's been a while since I tried throwing my hat in the ring. There's no reason not to look and maybe I'd have a much easier time in the interview process than I used to have since any job I'd be applying for would just really be for shits and giggles and I'd have no reason to be nervous. Edited because I obviously can't spell for sh&t. LOL about the spelling. I totally hear ya Brenda. Thank goodness for the internet and spellcheck being integrated into just about every program these days. I always right click on the squiggly lines that Firefox tells me are misspelled. It's usually the same words that I constantly misspell over and over again too. Eventually I do start spelling them right, so it happens less frequently over time. It's actually a source of pride when I use some words that are spelled correctly, but must be too "big" to be in Firefox's spellcheck dictionary. I didn't get a lot of sleep yesterday for some reason, so my feet hurt a bit more at the end of the night than usual. Kinda snapped on two guys who regularly milk the last few hours of the shift, especially on a night like tonight when the "regular" work wasn't enough to fill the entire shift. I asked them if they needed something to do, called them on their bullshit and told them what needed to be done. Somehow, big boss heard about this and thanked me. I told him that I know that in my position I can't really be paid much more money, and I manage not to dwell on that at all when I'm constantly working and I don't have to be around anybody who isn't working, but it eats at me when I'm busting my ass and I have no position of authority to tell people to get to work or just punch out and go home early. This all actually kicked off a 20 minute conversation on the clock about managing and I looked him dead in the eye and said "when are we going to have that conversation?". He said that up until this point he didn't even realize that I had any interest in moving up in the company and that we will be having that conversation when the remodel is over and the dust settles. I let him know that I remember telling him that I still don't have a five year plan when I answered that question in the interview... and he knows enough about my financial situation and how I feel about working for peanuts beyond paying for basic essentials and putting some in the bank. I think he thought that as long as he was working with my schedule right that I didn't have any desire for any more. That might be true in the end if I find out what a possible plan going forward here is, but I'd like to know what my options are in the future here. I think he's a great manager and would love to work under him if the conditions were right. Interesting times here for sure. In the mean time, just going to keep doing what I've been doing and I'll try to get a little more sleep tonight. :) Do Right, Be Right. :)
