Had to go out for my walk but with a new umbrella, so not as wet as I was a few days ago.

Yeah, my connection just goes bonkers. Sometimes I can't log in at all for hours at a time, other times I'm logged in but when I go to a different page/ site I get 'server not found' as my connection has been broken ... again.

Hey... I finally found something worth buying for the Black Friday weekend, although at this point I almost feel like I'm buying something just to buy something.

Not really though... It's a 6 piece cordless Ryobi tool set for $200 that is normally $300. I'll end up doubling up on two of the tools by buying this, and replacing two more that don't work from a Dewalt set that I refuse to get working again by having to buy full price batteries at $60 a piece that NEVER seem to go on sale.

The only "new" tool I'll get out of it is the Multi-Tool. But it will be nice to have a working cordless saw-zall again, and now I can just bring my old drill and circular saw on jobs with me without worrying too much about them getting beat up.

It will also come with two more batteries that on sale right now would cost me $80 for a set of two and a 2nd charger that I can take on the road with me. I'll probably just leave a bag with the 2nd charger and the old drill and saw in the trunk of my car and just remember to bring some batteries with me when I'm on the road. Heck... I'll leave my new tire inflation tool in the bag too.

I was really hoping though that the cordless saw in the set would be a full size version. Even if you buy the 12 piece set that is on sale for over $500 you get a slightly larger one, but it's still not a full size.

I really love these Ryobi tools though. The new batteries they use seem to just last forever compared to batteries from sets I've had before, and they have something like 300 tools that are compatible with them now and growing. And it's just nice to know that you can get replacement batteries for reasonable prices down the road, especially when you catch them on sale.

Eventually I'm going to buy a full size circular saw and a brad nailer for my set. Since I don't have a working air compressor at the moment and there aren't any Black Friday sales on them like they had last year, maybe I can just borrow my buddies if I get to doing the trim before I find a good deal on one.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

No worries on the Thanksgiving Kiki.

Yeah, this thing has been all over the place today. It crashed during a couple of YouTube videos. Got it back once easy enough then second time I had to do a hard reboot to get up and running again.

It seems to have settled down for now but I am going to be careful for the next few days.

I had to get once to do something and it went black, just managed to pull things together.

Nothing is over heating but I've had icons come and then be gone when I've turned it on in the last few days. It can be slow to come on. I'm also wondering if the rainy and windy weather isn't wrecking havoc on things.

Back from work and tired. Having some soup for supper and what is left of my lunch.

She complimented me today about her gingerbread. Saying how nice it tasted and the good texture In Spite of the fact that I left the wheat germ out of it.

I wish I could tell you things will be better. The problem as I understand it, is that when it overheats, things literally warp and some may even char. If you looked inside you might possibly even find scorch marks. Once that kind of damage is done, it doesn't reverse itself. (I say that from experience.)

Be prepared to get a new system at some point.

I know you mentioned you have all your stories as hard-copy. So if you've rescued everything off your thing that you know you'll want and need, when it gives up completely you'll be in good shape.

Time to bet back on my heating pad... But the back is feeling pretty good even though getting stuff done.

Got the back corner of my neighbor's garage propped up for the season with a solid pole jack and some temporary braces screwed in. We could have 30" of snow on top of it and it's not going anywhere now.

I was kind of hoping that we could straighten it out today and wrap it up because it's only a garage, but the roof was fighting me every step of the way and doesn't want to move from its new home. Going to need some time and persuasion to do that, and the dead of snowy winter isn't the right time for that. It will be fine until spring now though.

His father in law was there this morning to install a new service door too. That ended up being a much larger project than he thought it would be going into it (like everything always is), but we got it in there good now. Come spring time, I'm going to go back and replace a few of the other plates that are bad for them too.

My prognosis is that the garage will be fine and we got to it just in time.

I wasn't expecting nothing for it, but they gave me a gift card. A brand new one in cardboard with the sticker still on it. They didn't tell me what's on it and I didn't ask. Maybe it's a nice surprise?

Time to enjoy doing nothing for the next 40 hours.

It's a good thing you get outside and get some sunshine whenever possible. Vitamin D is so important!

And thinking back to where you used to live... some dark, dank hole ... now you are warm and dry and your landlady doesn't hate you. That's a huge step in the right direction!

I like natural vitamin D when I can get it. Though I do take a supplement. The farther into winter we go up here the less there will be.

Oh, I know. I would be so much worse off if I was still there.

Well at this end I had to waste a lot of good outdoor weather doing indoor but important stuff. I got the draft of the legal documents I've been bugging our lawyer about on the 23rd. 24th was my bday. Then there was T-day. So I HAD to review them this weekend, and they look fine, but I needed to send a copy to one other person who is named, and they need to approve it. Plus my retirement board is finally looking into answering whether they can pay into a representative payee account or not but -surprisingly- they know nothing about it even tho its a Social Security creation, so I had to send them a link to Social Security website plus a scan of an invalidated check so they coud see how the account was titled.

And I cheated on the rain-cap fix: I found a handyman who did it for free. Wouldn't even take the $20 I offered. I'm definitely going to save HIS name!

Sorted the mail with dear daughter- trying to make it a Sunday thing so she gets used to doing it every week, along with the recycling and trash.

Had two and a half bins of stuff that we had pruned out of the back wall area. I think I need to scrub the shower next before I get back to outdoor work.

*dusts hands*

Have a couple of doctor appointments this week, one with a cardiologist, so I hope he gets my stuttering heart sorted out because it can be very uncomfortable and sometimes pretty scary. I try to just deal with it as best I can, but I find it's interfering with my life quite a bit. Alho I did mention in the other thread that hibiscus tea wit elderberry syrup may be helping, altho I can't imagine why. It's something I started because I was trying to not drink coffee before walking the dog. Just hibicus tea doesn't seem to help... it's got to have elderberry syrup in it.

Or maybe I'm just imagining things.

Oh well... keep on keeping on!

I keep hoping one day you'll feel better and stay feeling better. Did you mention to you doctor what I recommended? Or maybe you could mention it to your cardiologist.

As for me, I'm slowly going through paperwork. My ADHD and form-filling dyslexia definitely make it difficult. But that's what phone help is for I guess. For people like me. I've come to realize that's how I manage a lot of things - I just ask them to tell me what I need to do. But since I did a lot of this a year ago, when I went online and grabbed a bunch of old files, I'm just catching up on a few things now, plus cracking the more difficult tasks I had put off. (And jeeze, I must have had a lot more concentration back then! And somehow back then I wormed my way deep into websites to pull stuff out that I can't worm my way into this year.)

Tomorrow I'll be back at it.

I hate paperwork! And what I really hate are those little gotchas buried in fine print on page 13 that spring up like zombies nine months after-the-fact. Worse, it seems like everyone is doing everything remotely ... working from home, calling from home ... so hold times are 30 minutes+, and often "they" can't access the files that "they" need to answer your questions or help you do something.

You have my sympathy.

So, the GREAT news is that my heart works great. Not "great for a person my age" but great for a person of ANY age. My ejection fraction is 68% ... "awesome", in the words of the doctor. I looked it up online: normal ejection fraction is from 50-70%.

They STILL don't know why it's so arrhythmic. I flew a couple of ideas past them that they didn't think were worth pursuing. They want to do a couple of tests and I will be vastly surprised if either of those show anything.

But in the meantime they're going to give me a beta-blocker which supposedly make the heart less reactive to adrenaline, and the even better news is that there's no problem with me doing even heavy-duty (for me) yardwork even if I feel shitty bc I won't be damaging my heart. In fact, they encouraged me to get aerobic exercise because that also re-sets the heart's response to adrenaline.

Also, the medical staff in the cardiac unit is hyper-aware of Covid-19. The cardiac nurse said the LA County numbers were "Scary" and she was wearing an N95 AND a disposable mask. She disparaged the surgical masks ..."They gap at the sides. What can they do?" and the cardiac doctor wore an N95 AND a face shield. He looked at me (in my N95) and said "At least you're wearing a proper mask".

According to them, the ICUs are so full they're thinking of xfering medical staff out of the medical offices and into the hospitals.

My back is better... finally. Was making better progress everyday but felt like I slid back on Tuesday after having to deal with the delivery company for hours for my brother's eBike the other day. I pace around a lot when I'm on the phone, especially when it's dealing with such unpleasantness.

Probably going to be busy this weekend. Looks like my buddy's old man needs some help doing things around his house. He heard that I'm quite good at helping people de-hoard their houses too, and after he saw what I helped his kid do with his garage I think he decided it's time to de-clutter his own life too.

Sign me up. I love getting rid of junk. It's even more rewarding to play dollar store psychologist and have other people thanking me later for making them let go of things they thought they just couldn't possibly live without.

Sign me up. I love getting rid of junk. It's even more rewarding to play dollar store psychologist and have other people thanking me later for making them let go of things they thought they just couldn't possibly live without.

What have you done today to earn your place in this crowded world? :)

That's awesome, SIX! YOU are making a difference ... onw house at a time, one family at a time!

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

Over at this end... I finally, FINALLY can get back to my happiest chore: yardwork!

After my heart started stuttering Oct 14 (yeah, it began that suddenly) I did some yardwork here and there but it triggered so many Dr visits (same-day xfered to ER, blood test, Ziopatch, stress ECHO, cardiologist, followup sleep study ... I still have to finish 2 more night of recording and return the equipment) but now that I have the news that my heart is not only Ok it's GREAT ... just kinda uncoordinated... b'day is over, T-day is over, ALMOST ready for Xmas .... new med ... I can get out there and start working again!

YAY! That's my happy place.

There will still be the daily/weekly household chores, andI still want to get a (very small) tree and put up lights, but my schedule has been freed up so much I'm really looking forward to working again!

I've set aside the backyard winter veggie garden for now, since it was so terribly delayed, and put the seeds in the frig where they'll keep better, and focus on finishing the front yard so that it doesn't require so much work ... ie, eventually getting to the final step of putting down weed seed preventer and mulch, but I have many steps to do before that.

But still... as I sit at the table and contemplate the upcoming next few days ... I don't have a schedule jammed from AM to PM, with nothing (it seems) to show for all of the busy-ness.

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

Hey Signy - what you have to show for all your busyness is peace of mind about ongoing stressful symptoms. And that's a good thing!

Have more unalloyed fun in your happy place!

Oh, I forgot - did the MD with 2 masks have the surgical mask inside or outside the N95? Just curious, plus I made myself a bet that it was outside.

BRENDA

Back from work and tired. Picked up supper from a Chinese place in local mall. Nothing exciting just some deep fried fish and rice.

Walked back with the other person who works for my boss. My boss is thinking about retiring from her medical practice. Not totally surprised by this news, I've been wondering all year if she wasn't. Just because of what's happening and her screwing up her paperwork in January. This work she had to do herself. So, we shall see.

Found out why it is taking so long to get the house reinsulated. My boss's husband had an argument with the contractor. And this time he had to get a mediator to sort it out. Not the first time this has happened. They had to get some pipe work done and he got into it with that contractor.

I thought they were just busy or because of the lockdown and stuff but my boss told me no and what happened.

This is one of the biggest potential pitfalls about getting contracted work done on your place, sadly, and why I'm really thankful that most of the stuff I can do on my own already or figure it out...

The inclination is to shop around until you get the lowest price. A lot of times that will actually work out well for you. But many times the lowest price is either because of a lack of experience on the part of the contractor, and not necessarily that they're shady or purposefully cut corners. They under bid. They put themselves in a position where they would hardly make any money even if everything works out 100% perfect (which it never does).

Unless Canada's laws are different, your boss probably doesn't have a case and he's wasting his own time and money here. If I were the contractor I'd just walk away from the job completely at this point and leave your boss with busted out walls and let him pay somebody else to do whatever he wants done now that it's all exposed.

What have you done today to earn your place in this crowded world? :)

Yard work. I am so ridiculously envious of you right now.

lol @ "Winter Garden". There's no such thing as Winter in California.

But really glad to hear that your health concerns seem to have been ironed out so you can get to it without worry.

Feels good.

Actually, yesterday my bud's dad said that their 20 year old water heater went out. Depending on how he is going to get this replaced, he might ask me to be helping out with that. That's great if he does. My own water heater is going on 10 years old now and I don't know how much longer it will be chugging along. It would be nice to have somebody with a vehicle who knew how to sweat in legit piping. When my step dad and I put the old one in we used flex pipe (which my bud's dad says you never use on water heaters when he was showing me how his own water heater setup worked and mentioned he thought it was flaking out).

But today is an awesome day. All of my new toys have been delivered to the store for pickup. I got an even better set of tools than I had mentioned here before, and then I went back for round two and ordered some extra beefy batteries and a 7th new tool. (I saved about $750 buying them during this sale, with the batteries themselves being rather prohibitively expensive outside of major sales.)

At one point my cordless tools were useless to me because I didn't have any working batteries and several of those tools I didn't have a corded counterpart for. Now I've got corded versions of all of those tools and I'm literally swimming in cordless tools and good batteries. Lithium Ion too... Not that NiCad crap that crapped out on all my old tools.

I think my boss's husband likes to think he knows what he is talking about and he doesn't. This is the first time they have owned a house and so this is the first time he has had to deal with all the repairs and stuff.

The work is continuing but he keeps sticking his nose into what is being done and the workmen don't like it.

It's a mess. I just hope it gets done before we get snow IF we get any snow this winter.

Yeah... That's kind of a human problem in general, but having done quite a bit of contract work for other people in my life and knowing a few mechanics and what they go through, I think when it comes to houses and cars people that are prone to pretend they know more than they actually do are really going to try to assert themselves in this situation. Usually, a pretty good deal of money is on the table regarding these things. And there are plenty of shady mechanics and contractors out there that have put everybody in the position of basically being guilty until proven innocent.

The remedy to that is what I said earlier. I'd just walk away from the job and let him find somebody else who will do the work for him and deal with it. There is always the next job, and most people aren't going to behave like this. I feel for those contractors.

And now I feel for them too. Owning a house isn't easy. It's not cheap either, especially if you're not going to invest the time and money necessary to figure out that 99% of the problems you can fix on your own without paying somebody else to do it. It's not rocket science.

Yeah... That's just awful. I always tell customers that they'll have to talk to the boss when he gets there. I'm not paid to deal with that. I don't let anybody do that to me anymore. I just quit and find something else if it happens. I'm nobody's doormat, and I certainly won't let somebody who drives around a nice new car talk down like they're somehow better than me because of that fact.

It's a shame that it's effecting you. Hope you can find things to keep you busy in the mean time. I don't know what your financial situation is or whether or not you're really worried at all about it. Hopefully it's over soon if you are. Good luck.
