So far, so good for him; knock on wood.

KIKI: I just have a love-hate history with vaccines and medications. Half of all antibiotics I've ever been put on as an adult had to be discontinued and permanently forbidden due to untoward body-wide rashes, along with the anti-viral Zovirax, which is why I had to go through shingles on pain medication alone. And aside from the flu vaccines, every other vaccination I've been given - shingles and pneumonia 2x - I've had some major localized reaction. Not to mention weird, supposedly rare side effects other medications I've been on. So, I think I'll need to discuss this with my doctor.

SIX: Sounds like you got it under control. How old is he?

I think when the time comes you need to make the decision on whether to own another cat or not and don't let the doctor make that choice for you. You've been able to cope with it up until now, and obviously owning a pet is something you take a lot of joy in. Suddenly not having one someday and feeling like you're barred from doing so could be worse for you than what you're trying to prevent. Just my two cents.

I had one cat that IMHO was even better than most dogs, personality-wise: He was an companionable as a dog, but not as slavish or demanding. He would walk with us when I walked the dog, and would sit with me when I wanted to sit quietly. He loved being petted but didn't demand it, and would look at me and talk to me trying to communicate, and when I had to have terrible procedures done to him for his health, and had to bathe him afterwards to clean all the poop off his rear end he seemed to understand that it was for his benefit, and trusted me completely to do the right thing.

I'd only be interested in a rescue myself. You'd probably assume it's a financial thing knowing me, but my neighbors have done that since I've lived here and I always thought it was a great thing they were doing. However, I would like to get a younger one if possible. The two poor kids over there have already had one die and the second one isn't far behind. I think they've only had him 4 years now.

All of the dogs I've owned have had completely different personalities. Two were rambunctious as hell (mostly labrador and mostly german short hair), one was a quietly-devoted one person dog (mostly samoyed, and I happened to be that oen person) and our current dog (prolly a miniature rat terrier) is a weird cross between a cat and a dog: she demands petting and lap time*, is playful and responsive and a terror to lizards everywhere, but scared of most other dogs and people

Well... the Dog Whisperer was my favorite reality show until I found hoarders. I have babysat dogs on occasion and the people can't believe how well behaved they are when they come back. When I go over to my buddy's house his dog follows behind me when I go into the house but if he or his fiancee are opening the door he's right there and pounces in before they get in the house. That's a big thing with dogs. You don't let them do that. It might be their house, but I could go 6 months without being there and in that dog's mind it's my house.

You don't feed them until you're finished eating either. That's not to say they can't have any "human food" as long as it's safe for their diet, but pack leader eats first.

Yeah. To be fair, it was a horribly behaved dog that would destroy the house and do things like scratch a the foyer door until its paws were bleeding if it was left home alone. She was in a bad place and I've long since forgiven her for it, but 36 years later and that memory is never going to die.

For myself, yesterday was a strange day. I ended up talking with someone on the phone for a long, long time. I guess they just wanted to chat. Anyway, because of that, fixing an experimental meatloaf batch (bbq style) got mostly put on hold till today. That and taking Mr E to the vet ASAP on saturday, and severely tweaking my back a few days before that (it's still a bit stiff and sore), did put some divots in my schedule. I'm not going to try to catch up. But I'll reorganize my priorities and continue on with my things to do.

When the whole group was playing we played indoors at a local seniors centre.
It's too wet in the around here to play outside and windy. You could possibly play outside if you had the tables in the summer.
