I wouldn't have expected it. Yesterday started out with quite a bit of stratus cloud cover and cooler temps (low 80s), and wound up even cooler with less cloud cover and a bit of a breeze, so I thought ... well, there must have been a mild cool front passing thru, the fun is done and now we're on the backside and can expect a warming back up to what it was before. Rain was the last thing on my mind.

Well, it tells me I picked the right day to water. One thing about CA natives ... COOL and damp, they can do. Hot and DRY, they can do. But they don't like water when the soil temperature is above 80, so I pick the coolest day of the week for the once-a-month watering, and water at night. Clearly, this was the coolest day of the MONTH, and the water came naturally, adding to whatever I had irrigated and driving moisture even further down into the soil. Plus, it washed dust off all of the leaves.

OMG I had no idea you'd been without rain for so long.
Here in SoCal we kind of expect not to see any from March to November, but I've always thought of our northwest and the rainward side of the Canadian Rockies as being green and in some places lush.

We even managed to get a teensy bit overnight which didn't do much here but ensure an already hot and humid day was going to stay humid.

Yeah. Seems like that's the case every year, at least with the Western US states.

We're actually a little short on rain this year though. Not a drought anymore, but it was for about 3 weeks a while back.

Too bad somebody hasn't come up with an economical way to divert the water where it needs to go yet.

They're all healthcare professionals, even the doctor that you work for part time.

A lot of turnover at our medical facilities, too. I've gotten four letters in the past month or so about doctors retiring or going elsewhere.

I think there was some sort of unspoken commitment or expectation that doctors "stand their post" during the big summer peak of cases and deaths, but now that most vulnerable people are vaccinated and deaths have barely budged even as cases have zoomed up, doctors feel (or were) released from their positions.

Maybe your audiologist got sick (or died)? I'd hate to think so, but I've heard of that happening more than once in the case of a doctor unexpectedly leaving a practice.
