Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

Just barely enuf to break thru the tree canopies and wet the sidewalks ... not enough to run in the street gutters, but still! Unexpected, unpredicted RAIN! In late July! I wouldn't have expected it. Yesterday started out with quite a bit of stratus cloud cover and cooler temps (low 80s), and wound up even cooler with less cloud cover and a bit of a breeze, so I thought ... well, there must have been a mild cool front passing thru, the fun is done and now we're on the backside and can expect a warming back up to what it was before. Rain was the last thing on my mind. Well, it tells me I picked the right day to water. One thing about CA natives ... COOL and damp, they can do. Hot and DRY, they can do. But they don't like water when the soil temperature is above 80, so I pick the coolest day of the week for the once-a-month watering, and water at night. Clearly, this was the coolest day of the MONTH, and the water came naturally, adding to whatever I had irrigated and driving moisture even further down into the soil. Plus, it washed dust off all of the leaves. Happy plants! Happy me. ----------- Pity would be no more, If we did not MAKE men poor - William Blake THUGR posts about Putin so much, he must be in love.

We'll be getting back to more comfortable temps later in the week here. It has and I remember that post too. Still far too warm in BC. Where I am is getting warnings about smoke drifting down IF the winds change direction. Have to see. Me too. Though closer to the Rockies in the southeast corner of the province they are hopefully getting some rain in the next day or two.

Seems like that's the case every year, at least with the Western US states. We're actually a little short on rain this year though. Not a drought anymore, but it was for about 3 weeks a while back. Too bad somebody hasn't come up with an economical way to divert the water where it needs to go yet. -------------------------------------------------- Vaccinated People: "You need to get muh vaccination shots that don't work because I got muh vaccination shots that don't work and I'm afraid of people that didn't get muh vaccination shots that don't work because muh vaccination shots that don't work don't work."

Quote:Originally posted by SIGNYM: There are huge fires burning in Lebanon and Turkey, and Kazakhstan is in serious drought. So just to get an idea of global drought, I found an international drought monitor which shows a swath of drought across Italy, Turkey, N Lebanon, n Iran, Kazakhstan, and parts of southern Russia There is another area of drought in equatorial Africa. But those are somewhat patchy. The really intense drought is from northern half of USA thru the southern half of Canada, from the east coast to the west. The west coast drought is barely a blip compared to the swath covering the middle latitudes of north America. ----------- Pity would be no more, If we did not MAKE men poor - William Blake THUGR posts about Putin so much, he must be in love.

They're all healthcare professionals, even the doctor that you work for part time. A lot of turnover at our medical facilities, too. I've gotten four letters in the past month or so about doctors retiring or going elsewhere. I think there was some sort of unspoken commitment or expectation that doctors "stand their post" during the big summer peak of cases and deaths, but now that most vulnerable people are vaccinated and deaths have barely budged even as cases have zoomed up, doctors feel (or were) released from their positions. ----------- Pity would be no more, If we did not MAKE men poor - William Blake THUGR posts about Putin so much, he must be in love.

Quote:Originally posted by 1KIKI: Overall, how are your fires doing up there, Brenda? Are crews getting a handle on them? I hope you all get rain up there soon. For myself, rain at this time of year down here would be nothing less than a miracle, so here we just need to hunker down and hope that the rest of the fire season isn't too bad, and that we have a good rainy season to end this drought. Maybe your audiologist got sick (or died)? I'd hate to think so, but I've heard of that happening more than once in the case of a doctor unexpectedly leaving a practice.

There is some rain heading for the Interior but again it is coming with lighting. So that is iffy at best. The weather people say rain for where I am next week now moved to Thursday evening into Friday. I have no idea as I have only been dealing with this hearing office this year. That is possible. I hope I will find out something when I go next Friday.
