Yup, then my boss took me out for a belated birthday supper. Her husband and oldest son were suppose to join us but they opted out.

It was nice and I didn't have to cook anything. Eve brought home half a piece of apple pie. We got desert and split it. The pie was good.

Looks like I will only be working once a month unless she decides that she needs extra help or something. Since today is the 1st of October, I probably won't see her until closer to the end of the month or the beginning of November.

I am just guestimating.

I hope it gives you satisfaction whenever you look at it.

But better belay heavy-duty work for a few days. It's been 90+ for the past couple of days over here, and predicted to be apox 95 for the next two (three) more, so for you that means 100-105+. Take it easy! Stay hydrated!

I hope this is the last surge of Santa Anas this year ... but I doubt it.

No pasta or cheese!!!!

I probably shouldn't eat cheese either, since it doesn't agree with me anymore, but it's one of the few food sins I still indulge in.

I'm pretty much still gluten free, but I've always made exceptions for when I eat with other people. I just don't "cook" it for myself. The spaghetti, ravioli, mac and cheese and frozen pizzas that I'd make for myself was definitely not real Italian food.

But by not eating something much, you REALLY enjoy it on the rare occasions that you indulge.

I don't get the same level of enjoyment out of the rare soda, but every once in a while if I'm down by my brother's with my Dad I'll have one and it does taste about 10 times better than I remember it tasting when it was a staple of my diet.

https://www.cancer.gov/types/breast/risk-fact-sheet
Based on current incidence rates, 12.9% of women born in the United States today will develop breast cancer at some time during their lives.

About 16 per 1,000 women in America had abortions in 2018. It was 29.3 per 1,000 in the 80s. So in any 10 year span, more than 15% of women have abortions.
But the breast cancer rate is only 13%.

First pregnancy abortions were already known to be the highest correlation with breast cancer. Sounds like it still is the case, despite the denials from SJWs.

That's what she said yesterday and it is directly related to her retiring. For a while it was 6 times, so twice a week for a whole month. But that was a good number of years ago. Over the last couple of years it became one day a week, then it went to a day every 2 weeks.

But it could go up again if she decides to get a part time job or volunteer somewhere. She gets bored easily and really has no patience for all the chores that come with managing things around a house.

Normally I don't see quite so many birds and butterflies, but today was a bonanza!

So of course I saw the neighborhood bird families: the California Towhees, the Scrub Jays, and the Mockingbirds, the House Finches, the House Sparrows, and the LBJs (little brown jobs). I also saw some western goldfinches. In addition I saw a California trasher. At first I thought it was a towhee, because it was well hidden under the trees, and it was about the same uniform brown, size, and shape. But then it came out to work on a fallen cherry, and it had pretty long legs and an extremely long, narrow, down-curved beak. If I've ever seen one before, I don't remember.

And as well as the monarch butterflies that come to visit the passionfruit vine, and the medium-sized white and yellow butterflies, I saw what may have been a painted lady which looks like a smaller, duller, chunkier monarch, and a HUGE - over 3" across - bright yellow butterfly covered about 50% with deep black margins. I'm guessing it's the anise butterfly.

Among your Mah Jong group, how many are regular attendees? And how many different players are usually the winners? Do most of the same players win most of the time?

The majority are regulars, that is they come every Thursday.

Anyone one can win on any Thursday if you get good enough hands.

Every week there are winners. There is a 1st prize, 2nd, 3rd then the booby prize.

By now, it should be pretty apparent that neither JSF or I or about 100,000 million other Americans trust anything the medical community has to say about anything.

Throw a ".gov" on the end of that URL and the trust plummets even further.

So today in the garden - sadly, no rain.

But ... I have a lot of trees and shrubs in my front yard. And today for about 20 minutes they were filled with LBJs (little brown jobs - birds) cheeping and chipping and chirping and hopping and fluttering like some noisy happy get-together.

All the while a mourning dove calmly pecked at the ground near my feet.

Overwhelming resources to thwart the reality and facts. But the real world facts have continued to prove out the correlation known long ago. Almost funny, if it wasn't so sad. Managed to mow the lawn before it rained. I can't believe I made it.

Did that after playing Block Daddy again and cutting down all the maple trees growing in between and through the fence right up next to the idiot millennial couple's garage behind me. That's the third time I've done that in 2 years for them.

This time, I cut two of them that have developed 6" diameter stumps completely at the bottom, but they couldn't be removed because they're completely melded with the chain link fence, so it's just a long floppy dead tree that's part of the fence now.

Even saw fat dummy standing there scratching his head, trying to figure out how a bunch of trees cut themselves down from my bathroom window as I as getting ready to take a shower. That was worth a few chuckles.

This time I was at least nice enough to dispose of all of it in my own garbage can and not dump all of it in the driveway so they couldn't park in the garage until after they cleaned it all up.

I ran across some more info. Even Breast Cancer activists are getting sloppy, letting slip some actual facts instead of their PC mantra.

https://www.wcrf.org/dietandcancer/breast-cancer-statistics/
Of the nations with the highest rates of breast cancer, US apparently ranks 22nd.
On that list, curious how you don't see Brazil, Poland, Columbia, Mexico, Spain, Israel. Israel seems, from what I gather, to encourage offspring. The rest of those are highly Catholic nations.

Quote:

In addition, the Panel judged there was strong evidence that lactation protects against breast cancer (unspecified menopausal status).

And from
https://www.wcrf.org/dietandcancer/breast-cancer/
another inconvenient fact:
Quote:

Oral contraceptives containing both oestrogen and progesterone also cause a small increased risk of breast cancer in young women

https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/highest-catholic-po
pulation

Of the 10 nations with the greatest Catholic Populations, only USA, France, and Italy are on the top 25 list for breast cancer. And that France entry might not count, not sure of the "metropolitan" notation - perhaps France as a whole does not rank in the top 25. These are the most aggressive abortion nations.

Of the 10 nations with the greatest percentage of Catholics, only Italy ranks in the top 25 of breast cancer nations.

Golly gee whiz, the nations with the lowest abortion rates also have the lowest breast cancer rates? Say it ain't so, Sally.

https://www.cancer.gov/types/breast/risk-fact-sheet
Based on current incidence rates, 12.9% of women born in the United States today will develop breast cancer at some time during their lives.

About 16 per 1,000 women in America had abortions in 2018. It was 29.3 per 1,000 in the 80s. So in any 10 year span, more than 15% of women have abortions.
But the breast cancer rate is only 13%.

First pregnancy abortions were already known to be the highest correlation with breast cancer. Sounds like it still is the case, despite the denials from SJWs.

FALSE

https://www.cancer.gov/about-cancer/causes-prevention/risk/hormones/re
productive-history-fact-sheet

By now, it should be pretty apparent that neither JSF or I or about 100,000 million other Americans trust anything the medical community has to say about anything.

Throw a ".gov" on the end of that URL and the trust plummets even further.

Although I finished with the fact that SJWs were denying it, I did not choose to include "cue denial by PC activist in 3...2...1..."
Think I missed the opportunity? But the reply was right on que.
And she even included the PC-scrubbed-of-inconvenient-facts linky which I implied but did not specify.

Back when that correlation was first learned, there was a huge storm of PC funds being thrown at gobs of new "studies" with pre-conclusions to disprove the facts. Overwhelming resources to thwart the reality and facts. But the real world facts have continued to prove out the correlation known long ago. Almost funny, if it wasn't so sad. So much "anti-breast-cancer" money thrown at getting more women breast cancer, it is a shame.

I've got 3 aunts and a grandma who have died of breast cancer. I have one aunt who is still fighting against it.

Unless they're all really good at keeping secrets, none of them had abortions. The chances that the 4 aunts all had abortions and nobody knew it are astronomically small. I'll bet my life that my grandma didn't.

Women do die of breast cancer without having an abortion first. You do know this, right?

P.S. Could you start another thread about this or something? I shouldn't have commented on it not once, but twice now.

Finally got around to swapping out all the old nasty door hinges on the doors and jambs I painted with my new oil rubbed bronze ones. I've got enough to hang all the interior doors, but I'll need to buy more when I do the exterior doors. I'll probably spring for higher quality and durability for those anyhow.

The screws they gave you were ridiculously small, so I had to buy new screws. Stupid small. Like only good on virgin wood if the door was being hung for the first time small. Still got a great deal on them though.

Going to go do some shopping now. The new flyer has a lot of great deals again this week. I've kind of been building up cool stuff over the last 4 or 5 months to have some goody bags full of DIY, tools and general purpose house/chores staples for things like Christmas and birthdays and just to give away when I get a hand from somebody doing something.

Took my chances on an all in one computer I found online for dirt cheap. Like stupid cheap, and I even talked down the price a bit too. If it works and I don't have to send it back, it's 2 to 3 times as powerful as that one I went into length here about how I was breathing life back into it. That was around 3 years ago now, and sad to say with all the new online "upgrades" they've been making to websites in 2021 it just can't reasonably keep up anymore and the upgradability was already maxed out. Using that thing for what I need to do is just a constant source of frustration these days.

This thing cost more than 12 times than I just paid for it 5 years ago, so the price is right. I've still got that SSD I couldn't use in my old AIO since it didn't even know what an SSD was, so right there will be a big boost over the HDD, and if I want I can still buy a used 8GB memory stick to put in the 2nd slot for 16GB.

Oh yeah... and the monitor is 4" bigger than my old AIO too.

I've got plans for the old one too, but its days of stumbling around online with Windows 10 is over.

I can't wait to build my own PC again, but the last 2 years have not been the time to do that. Prices are crazy, and unless you're big into gaming on PC (which I'm not), the only way to hit the sweet spot for performance and price on a desktop these days is buying used desktops that were refurbished after a company upgraded to a new fleet of 'em.

Sounds like you have a strong family history of breast cancer. There are two genes that, when mutated, are primarily responsible for breast cancer called ... appropriately... BRCA1 and BRCA2, but there are also 7 other genes associated with breast cancer.

If I were you, I'd suggest that my female relatives get tested at least for BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutations, which bumps up cancer risk from an average of 13pct to a whopping 80pct!

These genes are responsible for DNA repair, so if your DNA gets damaged it doesn't get fixed.

This affects men, too. SIX, if you have a mutated BRCA1 gene, you have an 8pct lifetime risk of getting breast cancer (yes, men have breast tissue too) but if you have an abnormal BRCA2 gene your risk of prostate cancer is SEVEN TIMES normal. And since prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men (except for skin cancers), it could be a significant lifetime risk for you, too!

Very true and I reckon by about 7pm this evening the clouds will really start rolling in and then rain. Trees are already short of their leaves.

So, o just looked it up. The average lifetime risk for prostate cancer for men is 13pct, just like the average lifetime risk for women is 13pct for breast cancer.

If your risk is seven times higher with BRCA+2 mutation, that's a wopping 90+pct risk!

Can be detected with PSA (prostate specific antigen) screening, via blood samples.

The overall risk for men is high lifetime exposure to testosterone. Men who started producing testosterone early (longer lifetime exposure) tend to have shorter legs relative to height, bc once they start puberty the growth plates in arm and bone legs fuse and stop growing bone length.

This is similar to women. What is associated with breast cancers is a high lifetime exposure to estrogen. Early puberty increases the risk, while pregnancy and breastfeeding (stops estrogen production), and chronic under-nutrition reduced the risk. I don't know about men and hormones, but for women being fat also increases the risk, since fat cells also produce estrogen.

And, in general, drinking too much can increase the risk of both breast and prostate cancers.

Back from my walk and the thrift shops I went in to had nothing I wanted in the way of jeans. But I got new GP info to my eye doctor and hearing aide. I have to see both of them next year, so they needed the info before I forgot. Next time I go to the pharmacy for meds refill will have to give them the new info.

That sounds very autumnal. Too many days of gray skies with nothing to look at except bare leaves is so dreary.

But, I do like those sunny, breezy autumn days. I hope you have many of those!

And I still like snow. Having lived in socal almost since I graduated from university means I never got burned out in the experience of having to get back and forth to work in it and, at my age, shoveling snow was fun. The quiet landscapes and sparkling snow, and especially Xmas lights shining thru and on the snow made up for the blizzards, mush, ice, shoveling and general pain in the *assedness of winter.

At my age, tho, I would probably want to escape.

It is looking pretty autumnal around here. I hope so to. But it is rain being forecasted for tomorrow. So we shall see.

Well, I will have to wait until the end of November into December to see if my area is getting snow. Though there is always a chance it could be early.

Should soon start seeing more fog in my area. It rolls in off the Fraser river and of course Vancouver gets a lot of fog in the fall because it rolls in off the Pacific ocean. I like the fog. When I was a young'un going to elementary school and even into high school, I would just let my mind wander as I walked through it.

I like snow to just not the accompanying cold.

I once asked my dad when I was around 7 years old if he liked the snow and he said, "No." Me being the curious child I was asked him why not. My dad said, "He saw too much of the white stuff while he was growing up."

As I have mentioned my dad was from Southern Alberta and they used to get and can still get a lot of snow out there.
