Agreed. Die Hard: With a Vengeance is my all time favorite in the series.

I only saw the 4th one after that and didn't care for it at all. I don't know how many there were after the 4th one, but I never saw any of them.

That's why they award winnings and something sometimes goes back to the Senior Centre for use of the room. But not yesterday with so few playing. I don't think.

Well, I think I would play without any winnings. It gets me out of my place and interacting with people.

It's good to get out. Congrats again on the win.

I tried to watch the 4th one in the series out of curiosity but about a half an hour into it and I just couldn't. McClain went to Russia or Eastern Europe to rescue his daughter and her boyfriend or something like that. It just made no sense what so ever.

It is good to interact with people and I have lunch at the centre. I can either order what they have on their menu or bring a sandwich and get a coffee there. The mah jong group usually all eat together then we go our separate ways. Thanks.

DH was in LA. 2 was in DC. Vengeance was in Harlem. Live Free was back in DC. Good Day was in Russia or Yurp.
Those last 2 had little Lucy grow up to be Mary Elizabeth Winstead.

I just thought it was a boring flick. I saw the whole thing years ago and honestly couldn't tell you anything about it. My only takeaway from it was that Timothy Olephyant makes a terrible villain. It's the only thing I've ever seen him in that I didn't like.

Sounds like fun. I always think I should see if there's something similar around here. I've gotten back in with some of my old friends, but they're married with kids and full time jobs and hardly ever get together anymore.

I was joking with my Grandma yesterday that she's probably been out of the house more this year so far than I have. I don't think that's really true, but it's probably not too far from the truth.

I typically stock up and hibernate for the winter if I'm not working a job anyhow though. At least there's plenty of projects here to keep me out of trouble.

Were the last two Box Office releases or straight to RedBox like most of Bruce's stuff these days?

That's all I remember about it. I like Timothy Olphyant but that was before "Justified" and so I didn't know who he was. I loved "Justified." Seen the whole series on DVD.

It is fun and we talk about stuff over lunch and how the morning went.

Yeah. Justified was awesome.

Did you ever watch Deadwood? That's the first thing I'd seen him in and I loved that show.

More recently, I've seen him in a few episodes of The Santa Clarita Diet, a comedy with Drew Berrymore. He's a lot better at comedy than he was playing a bad guy.

The first thing I would have seen him in was Steven King's Dreamcatcher, but it was only years later that I found out he was in it because at the time he was the only actor in the film I'd not already known. He didn't have a small roll in it either, but I just forgot he was in it until long after Deadwood was finished.

Justified and Deadwood were perfect roles for him though.

Got my flooring down in the pantry, so everything is done now in there except for the shelving and the threshold.

Man is that flooring hard to do when you're putting it in an area that you won't be putting baseboard or quarter round on top of. Would have been a cinch if I could have been up to 1/8" off on the entire perimeter, but it took me 3 hours to do it to make it perfect along the natural curves of the existing baseboard. Doing it long ways into a deep closet instead of into a shallow but wide closet seemed to make it quite a bit more difficult too.

I'll try to remember to get a few pics of it up later.

No, never saw "Deadwood". Didn't know he was in that. Only actor from the clips I recognized was Ian McShane, British guy and a good actor. I used to love "Lovejoy" which was a series he did back in England in the 1990s.

I haven't seen "Santa Clarita Diet", thought it sounded okay. Keep meaning to see if I can find it on YouTube. Some of these things don't make it on to DVD, so my library doesn't get them.

I count 5.
I watched each one in cinema, as original release. I like that even tho MEW had become more in demand, she still reprised her role as Lucy.

Have you thought of salt for the ice? I've heard there's some sort of urea formula that doesn't burn your grass.

Salt melts ice OK above 30F. At 20F it is 1/5 as effective. Below 10F it is nil. Salt stops melting at -6F.

Salt is for old people, or those too lazy.

Not sure how many recent days 6ix has had above 20F. I have not seen many.

Yeah. When he did Justified, I think he just brought the same character over from Deadwood and modernized him a bit. No complaints from me since I loved both shows.

Ian McShane was arguably the most dynamic character on the show with the largest arc of growth. I loved his character by the end of the run. I believe it's the final season where an episode completely surrounding an issue he's got is one of the most intense things I remember ever seeing in a TV show. Phenominal actor, although the only other thing I've ever seen him in was the terrible remake of Death Race in 2008. (He's the only thing I even remember about it).

I would HIGHLY recommend Deadwood to you considering the cast, but that comes with a warning too. It ain't PC, like at all. And most of the characters of Deadwood outside of Timothy and the Doctor use cuss words as punctuation marks. YouTube probably took it down by now, but I remember a 5 minute long video where somebody took every single instance of the word C*%#sucker and just played them all one after the other without any repeats.

I think you'd like it. It is one of the few shows my old man and step-mom can watch together. He showed me a few episodes while we were visiting my brother on several occasions, but I watch so little these days and it didn't totally grab my attention enough to make me watch the whole thing. I didn't find anything objectionable or bad about it though. I'm sure if I were dating somebody who wanted to watch it with me I wouldn't mind.

Since I know that Deadwood is set in the old west, I don't expect PC. And cussing in a show like that wouldn't bother me. I might hit my library on Monday. I know I have seen the DVDs there.

I'm not sure if I have seen the remake of "Death Race 2000". Know I saw the original one with David Carradine. Might look the remake up for a giggle.

I'm always looking for something new to watch and it should be on YouTube.

You'll have to let me know what you think.

Deadwood's a show that should have gotten one more season, or a movie RIGHT after it was done like they said they were going to do. They finally made that movie 10 years later. I still haven't watched it, because I intend to rewatch the show before seeing it.

They did a fine enough job wrapping it up. It wasn't a cliffhanger ending like Sarah Connor Chronicles, but it did leave you wanting for more.

Hopefully the movie is good.

Deathrace 2008 definitely has a higher production budget and luster to it than the Carradine version does, but it's just another of a long line of remakes that didn't need to be made.

The original one, IMO, wasn't that great either though, so I felt that it was kind of a missed opportunity. I'm not against remaking movies that weren't great in the first place, but they could have done a better job than they did.

If they never remade The Thing in the 80's, we'd never have the awesome Kurt Russell version.

I know people thought that Deadwood got the shaft.

Well, the Carradine version was done in the 70s and a lot of cheesy movies from that time came out.

I know what you mean about remakes of movies. Somethings should be left alone.

Love Kurt Russell but The Thing didn't do anything for me. Now Escape from New York that I liked.

The Kurt version is my favorite Thing. The recent version had MEW taking over Kurt's role. And that was after they were both in Sky High together, and Grindhouse together.

Yeah. I've never seen the original (From the 50's? 60?'s), although I do intend to watch it one day.

I saw the MEW version. It was awful, but that's what happens when you try to ape off of lightning in a bottle for a quick profit. Some things like Death Race SHOULD get a proper remake every few decades or so until they get it right. The Thing was already about as close to perfection that a movie should get and shouldn't be remade.

I realize that it wasn't a remake per se, but I don't care if you shifted the timeline a bit, it's still a remake of the movie if you're doing the same damn thing the whole way through.

I'd love to see the original version of the MEW remake though. They actually DID do all practical effects like the Kurt version, but some dipshit Hollywood execs stepped in and said "Where's the CGI? The kids love CGI!!!" and then the movie went over budget putting cartoonish effects over all the expensive practical effects and the CGI they used was already outdated before the movie even began production. That's the turd we all saw.

Do you know if they ever got around to a director's cut with that CGI trash taken out of it? It might actually be a decent movie under there.

ETA: On the subject of director's cuts, another movie I wanted to watch as the director wanted it is The Mist. It was supposed to be black and white, but the Hollywood Execs stepped in and changed that too. As far as I know, there's no other differences between the two versions, but the change to black and white is really supposed to add a lot to it. Especially with the environment and shadows.

Yeah. But like I said, they saw the writing on the wall at least. I feel they did do a fine enough job wrapping it up and we weren't left with a Firefly situation or anything. My old man saw the movie but his opinion was that they waited too long. Everybody looked so much older 10 years later, so instead of following up on recent events like an immediate movie would have, it followed their lives many years later and I think they kind of filled in the blanks with exposition.

Yeah. I think it's probably a movie I would have loved if I saw it when I was a kid. I didn't actually watch it until after I watched the 2008 version though, so there was no nostalgia there for me. It was still better than the new one though, IMO although they both have their pros and cons and neither comes close to being a great flick.

I love the Escape movies. It's great how LA is just an unashamed ripoff of NY with a higher budget. It's hard for me to say which one I like better since despite the glaring similarities thrown in your face they're both quite different in tone. It's almost like LA is a spoof of NY.

I was always sad we never got that Escape From Earth movie to round out the trilogy.

Kurt could still do it. I'd love to see Old Man Plisken finally get off this rock and we could imagine one day he meets up with Old Man Mal and the Firefly crew.

Shopping today. There's currently 3 simultanious ads out at the big box store, with two of them ending today. I probably waited too long for some of the stuff that will be sold out, but they've got more than 20 4-packs of various tools for the end of my newish multitool that are only $10 after rebate, so it's worth the trip for me to see if they have anything else I was interested in.

They've got some corner guard trim that's on clearance for a good price. I think when I build my shelving for the pantry I want to use that to cap them off rather than router nice edges to them. I might be using extra plywood I have out in the garage for the shelves, and I could easily screw the edges up with my router since it wouldn't be solid boards.

Might pick up some food while I'm out, but I don't really need to.

Taking advantage of the WARM day. They say it might actually get up to 30 degrees! I forget what the 30's feel like.

Closure in tv shows is important and that is good.

I went and looked it up after I left here and I have seen the 2008 version and it wasn't as good. Definitely preferred the David Carradine one. I must have watched that when I was in high school on tv some late night. Carradine's came out in 1975.

Yeah, I've seen both Escape movies but I still prefer New York to the LA one.

I don't feel quite the same way. I think the two films were just fine.

The corner guard trim on clearance was just pressed wood garbage with a thin veneer wrapped around it and half peeling off in the middle. No way I'm using any of that. Oh well.

I just bought $180.00 worth of stuff though, and after the rebate comes in it will have cost me less than $15.00.

A lot of it is for me, but I'll have plenty more to give away this round.

I think today is going to be a cleanup day. Nothing has gotten gross, but as I usually do while in the middle of the project I just let stuff pile up everywhere and I've got to get everything back to its home now before cleaning around the kitchen sink area and giving the bathroom a good cleanup.

PICTURES!

I don't even remember why I took a picture of the pantry when the door was off, but I'm glad I did because I forgot to take any before pictures of the shelving in there before starting the work on it. Unfortunately, that means that I don't have any pictures of the pantry with bare shelves unless I can manage to dig up one from the photos I took when I was originally house hunting.

Two pictures illustrating how badly damaged and discolored the walls and shelf brackets were.

The horrible, dirty, somewhat damaged floor.

The mysterious hole that was filled in with plaster or something. I neglected to snap a picture of it before sanding it down, but it was probably bubbled out about 1/2" at the bottom where the weight of the wet stuff just sagged. It needed an extra coat of mud after that but you can't see it now. I really think they made this hole to fish up the phone line in the kitchen and some point and didn't ever care to repair it.

You can really get a good feel for how gross and damaged the walls and baseboard were from the closeup.

Nice and clean with the new floor.

A better view of the floor and how I cut it out around the existing door frame.

Not pictured is how much work went into prepping and caulking the interior door frame to the walls inside. Nobody will ever see it, but at least I know it looks awesome now.

The only tape I put down was on the floor around the baseboard, even though I knew it was going to be covered up with the new floor. Everything else was cut in meticulously by hand. THREE FREAKIN TIMES because Pittsburgh Ultra paint sucks.

Thanks Sigs. I'm so glad I had that extra floor to put in both of the closets. It really seems to be a quality product. It took forever to cut it in there like that without having the door jamb and trim installed on top of it (or without undercutting those with a tool that I don't have), but what's great about it is that it stays put without needing any adhesive. I did put an "X" under there with double stick tape in case I needed it, but I've yet to pull the top part off and affix it to the bottom of the floor. It doesn't appear to need it.

I could still easily go back and take it up if I wanted to whenever I get around to restoring hte 1st floor hardwood. That will probably be a long time from now because I'm running out of rooms that I don't care if people wear shoes. I might not even do it in the closets anyway though because I like how good the floor looks.

I still have enough of it to do one more similar sized closet, but I'm out of closets. There's one in the basement still, but that's the biggest closet in the house and the piece wouldn't be big enough for it. I've got a stack of those bench shelves I built in there with everything that used to be in the pantry and other various tools on it now.

If my sliding shelf idea works well in the pantry, I think I have a use for it still. I might make a soft-close pull out shelf in the kitchen in that garbage nook and trim out the sides of it after cutting a final piece out of that flooring to go on top of it. I'd probably build up a small piece on either side for easy pulling, rather than requiring you to get down on your knees every time you wanted to pull the trash bins out.

Nice... Tomorrow is supposed to be a high of 37 degrees with a low chance for snow.

I think I might just spend some time in the garage building and sanding down some pantry shelving tomorrow.

Not as warm as I'd like it to be for the job, but if I keep waiting for 40 degree days I'm going to be without a usable pantry for a long time.

Hopefully I don't have to do too much power sanding. I'm willing to do hand sanding in the basement, but I have no desire to be kicking all of that dust around power sanding while the furnace is sucking it all up and blowing it everywhere else.

It felt like somebody left the heat on today. 37 degrees.

I got 3 shelves for the pantry cut to size, sanded and "broke"... That means rounding the edges to give it a nicer look and not having hard edges to paint around.

Since it's plywood, I was too afraid to try giving it an edge with the router, but I think it's going to look great. I'm going to primer them, then I'm going to hit any of the knots with wood putty, sand it down, prime those spots, then give it a few coats of paint. I have at least enough white contact paper left after doing the curio cabinet to get the three shelves done.

I'm going to wait on the bottom two shelves until I figure out which drawer slides I'm going to buy so I know exactly what width they need to be.

I robbed Menards again with the rebates today. Not nearly as nice a haul as the last one on paper because the 4 air filters for my furnace still cost $5 each after the $2 rebate, but they were also on sale and normally are $12.99 each. Not including those, the rest of the stuff was $52, but after the rebate they'd have been $15. None of the stuff this time was free, and they weren't paying me to take the antibacterial wipes off their hands like they did the other day.

In total, with the last two rebate heavy trips there, the upfront costs were roughly $258 but will only cost me $58 when the rebate comes in, and that's including the $20 for the 4 filters.

Got a lot of great new tools and materials out of the deal, and a lot more stuff to give away once the rebate clears.
