Well, maybe doing more clearing out and airing out might get rid of the cat smell.

I hope she can. Sometimes photographs can help. They can take a person back to that time and place.

I have old photographs from my dad's side that I know most of the people in them and some have written on them the year and the people. Unfortunately the old photographs I have from my mom's side. Not so much with the writing and years.

I think it will all work out. I just need more time over there. I was planning on going back over this week, but I really need to be getting some stuff done over here like I'm doing right now. Also, I think my aunt is a little overwhelmed with how much crap is now out in the garage that she has to worry about salting out with the trash. she keeps talking about renting a dumpster and that is completely unnecessary. I keep telling her that she asks me if we can clear the house out by the end of summer anyhow, so just keep throwing it out bit by bit while I'm clearing things out and it should all be out by then. Her city is real good about trash pickup and they took about a dozen bags last week on top of the cans. Once the bags are out, then she can put one big or a few small pieces of furniture out with the trash too. I told her that I can make trips around garbage day to do more dehoarding so I can help her with the heavy stuff, or my uncle lives right in the neighborhood and would be happy to help her with that.

Something my grandma said the other day makes me think that its possible we won't be able to name a lot of those old time photographs. It's possible that the entire lot of them were from her first husband's family. He'd be my grandfather by blood, but they split because he chose booze over a family and he died a long time before I was born. My actual grandpa died when I was 5 and they had been married around 25-30 years.

Sounds like you and your aunt have a good plan for the house. That's good. I hope you can get back over there this week after you finish some home chores.

That would be too bad if your grandmother can't. That's rough. All my grandparents died before I was born. Some of my older cousins on my dad's side may have known them but not me. My dad's father died while he was over in Europe fighting in WW II and his mom died after he got home from the war. My mother's folks were split too and her dad died maybe during the late 40s and her mother died in the late 50s. They split up after my mother's infant sister died. My dad's parents were together until my grandfather died as I mentioned. He went in 1942.

BC has managed to string together another couple of dry days. Not suppose to last though. More rain coming in for the later half of the week.

So, I don't need my jacket for my walk today.

Back from my walk. Meds refilled and dropped a form off at the dentist office as well.

A while back work crews were tearing up the sidewalk in front of the library. Today they are tearing up part of the road.

Sounds like sewer, water, gas, or cable repair.

Me, I'm so nosy I just walk up and ask "Whatcha doin'?"

Usually people are so grateful that ANYONE takes an interest in their work, they're happy to talk about it. The only grumpy responses I ever got were from cops. They usually just say "Get out of here" so I've learned not to ask.

I got all the shelving units built except for the last two. I decided to go with 18 of them stacked three high instead of only 15... But I did decide to make the end ones only 2 feet wide so I can have about 28" of free space between them and the overhead door.

It wasn't until late in the day when I discovered that I had just enough legs to build everything... except the last damn piece was only 20.5" and all 71 of my other legs were 21"!!!!!!!!!

Problem solved though. I took a side trip to the big box store after grocery shopping and I got a piece of 2x8 junk wood that I can rip and make the last leg for under a buck.

So the shelves weren't totally free. They cost me a buck.

More like $11 when you count the five 200 packs of wood screws that I will have almost used up. (Normally $7.00 each, but I got them for $2.00 on sale). I didn't really use them up though. The three smallest sizes really weren't very useful for this project, so I probably still have 350 small screws that will have to find another use on another project some day.

But with that last piece being a piece of junk scrap, I can with honesty say that the entire project was done with recycled wood that I kept out of a landfill and will make use out of for as long as I'm living here now.

Big day tomorrow. I finally get to wrap up the new shelving system, then I can start going through all of my wood and deciding what to keep and what to throw out when my cans are empty Thursday afternoon.

If I play my cards right I can get everything organized on my new shelves, purge what I don't need anymore, and have my place ready to work on finishing that electric and getting some real light in there to see what I'm doing on my soon to be empty work benches.

What a novel idea. I'll actually be standing up while working on future projects on my benches instead of kneeling on concrete like an animal.

When we get a couple of dry days they are really sunny and beautiful. Just wish it was more than a couple here and a couple there.

The library was replacing the sidewalk and pipes then. This time I'm not sure what exactly. Could be doing some resurfacing after all of that. Smooth out the pavement.

That inspires me to do cleanup of my own!

Not yesterday, tho. Yesterday I was flogging the phone bc I decided to untangle our doctors, testing, and physical therapy appointments. Some conflicted, and the rest were scattered to require maximal number of trips. Since that involves a drive on the most congested freeway in the whole of the USA those are trips I want to minimize. So I managed to double or sometimes triple-up appointments. I saved us five trips over two months. (and with gas at $6/gal that saves us money as well as time.)

Also scheduled hubby for much-needed doctor/surgeon visits. I'll have to drive for some of these, so I've been practicing driving around town, getting my confidence back. The problem is that chemo gave me severe neuropathy in my hands and feet. My hand seems to be getting better, but everything from the balls of my feet forward remain stubbornly numb and tingly ... I don't really feel the brake and gas pedals, so I have to drive in socks bc the less between me and the pedals the better off I am.

Today we got a marine layer going, so it should be cool enough to finish off prepping a large part of one vegetable garden. Tomorrow I should be able to buy the plants (assuming there are any left at the nursery) and set them in. Then it's on to more yard cleanup. Have to be careful to stay hydrated and electrolyted (ya, I know, not a word) tho and be nice to my kidneys.

Looking forward to progess!

I more or less finished the shelving yesterday. I had a few extra last minute steps when looking at the wood I still had after they were done. I used extra 1x4's from some nice old pallets I had been using to build shelves for a few years left over and used them to double up on the 2x4 legs on the sides of the units. Then I had some 1/8" or 3/16" plywood that I had pulled off the back of a few of the cabinets I Dismantled and used that to cover up the sides of them. (To keep dust out, and to keep any snow getting onto the shelving during the winter when I'm snow blowing).

Then I decided to make some additional shelf platforms to insert above the side braces for the highest row of modular shelves to give myself a 33% boost to surface area on my shelves for smaller things that I can put at eye level. I've got those cleaned up totes for the lower levels and stuff that I rarely use or will be putting in the house when I get to some more remodeling will go up at the very top (like light fixtures and the rest of that bundle of roof shingles and my roofing supplies).

I already filled up my 3rd can that I technically shouldn't have with wood yesterday. They should have my other two cans emptied in a few hours.

I'm also going to be throwing out a crappy curio cabinet I'd been using in the garage for storage and taking off all of my weeding/bug stuff off a very lightweight/small metal shelf system and repurposing that in the basement.

Then I will take 3 of the scrap bench shelves I made years ago out of my basement and putting them in their place on the back wall. I don't need 9 benches worth of stuff in my basement at all times when I have a clean and organized garage. I'll just be keeping stuff that I regularly use in the house and things that would go bad in the extreme heat/cold down there from now on.

Hopefully I get everything organized today so I can start working on electric tomorrow.

Did manage to clear out most of one vegetable garden but I won't be able to pick up plants untill Saturday - I was going to run out this AM but forgot that I had a mid-morning phone appt, this afternoon is also committed to being at home, and tomorrow is committed.

Also, no more cool weather for the foreseeable future. Since I have to be nice to my kidneys, I'm going to change up my schedule. Instead of starting yardwork at 3:30-4:00 and dinner at 5-6, I'm going to start dinner at 3PM and yardwork at 5PM, when it's cooled down more.

And since I can't buy plants or set them in today, I'll work on the front yard instead.

Back from mah jong and errands in the rain. But at least I had some good luck at mah jong. Went out half a dozen times or more, so I finished the morning with over 5,000 points which means I got 1st place. Won about $10 too.

Also managed to get back about 5 minutes before the elevator guys turned off the only working one, so they could make sure it is running properly. That was a relief.

Stopped at my local library as well and picked up "The Eternals". It just came in for me after being on hold for a bit. And I picked up the 4th season of "Vikings" too.

Yeah. Not getting to the electric tomorrow, but progress was made.

Got the curio cabinet out with the trash. Got the three bench shelves up from the basement and set up in the garage. Did some lower wall repairs that I forgot needed to be done with my 1x8" wood. Can't get to the rest of them until I can move my large work bench. 2 more cans are full of junk wood and some of the final de-hoard.

I FINALLY got around to raising that 12 foot ladder so the bottom of it is level. No more splitting my head open on the base of it while I'm working. It's over 6 feet high now, so anybody I'd ever have over will never hit their heads on it again. It took some ingenuity and a bit more time than I thought it would, but doesn't everything.

1 of two work benches completely clear. The large one is about half clear and I will be able to clear it off once I organize and de-hoard what's on the new shelves.

I might mow the lawn tomorrow. I think I need to get out of that garage for a day. Breathing in a lot of dust, and I couldn't even keep the overhead door open today since the cotton seeds were blowing all over the place today.

Keep cool Sigs!

I've got a few more reasonably cool days ahead of me, but come Monday it's HOT HOT HOT!

The good news is unless some freak of nature occurs I think I might be able to say I've gone two years without any water in the basement this far into 2022.

First time my A/C is going to get a real test this week...

I'm going to have the thing just running 24/7.

90 on Monday, 100 on Tuesday, then high 80's for the rest of the 10 day forecast. (Real Feel on Tuesday is 105 because of humidity)

Yuck.

The little time I had to be up high in my garage working on the ladder was hot yesterday. Can't imagine what that's going to feel like next week if I'm working on electric up there.

Won't be mowing the lawn today either. T-storms on and off all day long.

Got some paperwork and some calls to make. Maybe I'll clean up around the house a bit after that.

I just looked at every day predicted on accuweather through August and only two days are expected to have a high under 80 degrees after tomorrow.

I sure hope that changes. What an awful summer that would be.

Why were teeth pulled? Dentists here are very reluctant to pull teeth unless they're sideways-growing wisdom teeth. Maybe they make more money doing crowns and fillings and root canals?
Anyway the reason I was told is that teeth are another calcium storage system, and keeping teeth helps prevent osteoporosis. (I still think it's a money-thing.)

My day wasn't AS committed as I thought, so I managed to go to the nursery and get regular tomators, plain red and green bells, sugar baby watermelon, basil, parsley, and zucchini.

Inside u have fancy peppers and tomatoes, muskmelon and okra seedlings, and beet seeds. So now I HAVE to finish both gardens in order to plant!

But tomorrow I'm going to try again to back up dear daughters texts bc she has a 3G phone which is about to be DC'd. Problem is it keeps bonking our WiFi, and refuses to switch over to Bluetooth even tho it has the capability. If worse comes to worse I'll take it to tech help. Then need to exchange her old phone for a cheapie newer phone, which can be done for free.

After that, planting. MORE doctor appointments! Metal and film recycling. If I can get all of that done in a week, I'll be happy. And very surprised!

They were broken. One down to the gum line and there was little left of the other one. But the dentist managed to remove them both with little trouble. He put in 3 dissolving stitches and all I have to do is be careful for the next couple of days to let the healing start. No antibiotics needed just rinse my mouth out with salt water twice a day starting tomorrow.

They probably do make more money. But not on me as I am at my financial limit with this job. Next appointment won't be until October and that will just be a check up.

I've been told that too. But these two going is for the best.

I had wisdom teeth out, and was told to to NOT rinse the clot out of the socket bc that clot is what helps the gum"fill in" the hole. If you rinse vigorously or suck or otherwise dislodge the clot you'll wind up with "dry socket" which takes far loner to heal and is very painful.
https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/dry-socket/symptoms-cau

I knew somebody who developed dry socket and it was indeed very painful for about 3 days.

If you DO wind up with dry socket and nobody wrote a painkiller Rx for you, then a normal dose of acetaminophen and a normal dose of ibuprofen taken TOGETHER work just as well as hydrocodone. My observation is that it does work.

Sounds to me like you're covered by national (?) or provincial (?) insurance, but that they cap the total per year payout? So you get covered for routine work, like exams, cleaning, and fillings, but you wind up abandoned in case of disaster, like if you get in an accident and a lot of teeth are damaged. It's better than the USA, which has no national or state dental insurance at all, but it could be better than it is.

Anyway, I hope you heal quickly and with no complications.

I mowed the lawn yesterday. Then I spent about 7 hours in the garage. It didn't seem like much got done on the surface, but organization and de-hoarding takes time.

I did get an inventory of my electrical supplies done. One step closer to knowing what I'll still need to go out and buy. I doubt I'll be getting to that until later in the week though. I don't think I'm going to be getting much work done in the garage when it's 90 and 100 degrees outside.

I had wisdom teeth pulled back in high school. But this time I was told not to rinse out my mouth or suck or put my tongue in the area because of the clot.

They told me Advil or Tylenol for pain if I need it. So far just a little sore in that area last night. Have to see what happens today.

Provincial and yeah, I think it is maxed now and I am almost maxed on what I can put in. But that's okay.

Thanks. Like I said so far so good.

Just rememeber - ibuprofen + acetaminophen = very good pain relief. It works for all kinds of pain - pinched nerves, muscle spasms, surgical wounds, injuries of all sorts...

There are only a few caveats

1) ibuprofen -and ALL NSAIDs (aleve, meloxicam etc) - cause kidneys to hang onto salt and water. Bc they slows down your kidneys, you may experience temporary weight gain and swelling in your ankles, hands etc. It's not recommended for people whose kidneys are compromised. Continued use of a lot of NSAIDS (like, a kilogram of ibuprofen over a lifetime, like people with arthritis) can increase the risk of kidney failure. They are all - except aspirin- also associated with ulcers and cardiac events, and they thin your blood. So, not to be taken BEFORE surgery.

2) Acetaminophen (tylenol, paracetamol) shouldn't be taken by people who drink more than 3 drinks/day. It's processed by the liver, and mixing alcohol with can cause liver damage. Not that I expect that to be a problem for you, just for the sake of completeness.

Yeah, they gave me a paper with a list of does and don'ts on it. I told them I don't smoke or drink or drive. All I did that afternoon was grab a bus back up to where I live.

No worries. Like I said I didn't need anything last night and it doesn't look like I will need anything tonight either. Smooth sailing so far.

Hope you got yours done. I couldn't as all 4 washing machines were in use. So I tabled that chore for another day and got on with the other things I had to do.

An entire day devoted to organization and purging and I'm still not done.

At least I'm over the worst of it. Got through my screws, nails, nuts and bolts and have a good idea of my electrical inventory before starting the electric in the garage.

Got rid of a big ole' bag of trash and got plenty of junk metal on the side for the scrappers.

One more day and everything should be in its place, and I'll get most everything outside except for a small tool box and the paint and caulk that can't be out in the garage.

Well... I certainly won't be up there doing electric on Tuesday when it's 100 degrees.

Today is beautiful. Cloudy right now, but in the 60's with a high of 70. My plan is to get the entire garage organized and get anything out of the basement that's going out there put in its place. I'd like to think that will be easy now that I've done the worst parts of the organization, but I have forgotten what's still on my main work bench because it's been covered in so much crap for so long, so we'll see. Probably be at it until 9PM again tonight like I have been every day since last weekend.

I never did get around to cleaning the house on Friday. Rain didn't fall until after 4PM so I got the lawn mowed and spent the rest of the day into the night out in the garage.

Monday and Tuesday will be massive house cleaning days. Got my Dad coming by for the first time since February later this week and I'm pushing for my aunt to bring my Grandma over on the weekend before it starts getting too hot to do that. Looks like highs in the low 80's next weekend right now, but who knows what that will look like 5 days from now.

I really need to have people over more. I can really let this house go when I'm not having regular visitors.

The A/C should be fine. It's just the one window unit for a rather large house, but the basement stays comparatively cool on its own. I also lived in this house for about 9 years without any A/C, so I have a pretty high tolerance for it and any help the A/C manages should be more than enough to make sleeping easy. Really, the important thing for me is just removing the humidity, and I have had 5 gallon buckets fill rather quickly during the last few summers I had it installed. No buckets down there anymore now. I just put one of those resin things you put at the base of your downspouts under where the water drips and it keeps it from splashing all over the house and making a huge hole in the dirt. One day I'll get those rocks laid out and won't worry about it anymore.

Oh... right.

I forgot I want to finish the wall repairs on the garage so I can use up those 2"x8" and give them a purpose instead of being slightly out of my way.

I'd better get moving if I want to get all that done. Otherwise I'll be moving that heavy work bench and the heavy top to a 2nd work bench I've never put together in the heat tomorrow and have sawdust sticking all over me.

I'd prefer not to tar and feather myself.

Today is supposed to be the coolest day for a while (83) but I have someplace to go this afternoon so I spent the morning walking the dog and planting vegetables and herbs. I have MOST of the plants that I bought from the nursery planted, but I need to dig up the remainder of the second veggie patch and most of the first one in order to get my seedlings and seeds and the rest planted.

It was hot work, and in the sun in the AM! So I'm going to save the rest of the prep and planting for late afternoon/ early evening. The only reason why I was working in the sun was bc of a schedule crunch.

Well, that part's done!

*dusts hands*
