Before I built those shelves, I bent and ran pipe through the walls and put four boxes in and also ran wire through, but never did any more than that at the time. I also bent and ran the pipe through the back wall to put two boxes there. Today, all of that was connected to the main. It all comes in the garage with 12gauge wire, and it's on two separate 20 Amp circuits. All of the lights and the overhead door opener are on one circuit. All of the outlets are on the other circuit. On the side wall and the back wall I now have 20 outlets. Obviously even with a 20 Amp circuit if I ran a bunch of stuff on all of them at once it would blow the circuit, but that's not the point. I want to be able to plug in stuff anywhere I want to without any hassle. I also repurposed one of my two switches by the service door. One controlled the lights over my main work bench on the side wall opposite of the new outlets, and the other one controlled four outlets below the switch box. Now those four outlets are powered all of the time, and the second switch controls the overhead lights. I've only installed two of the four I will be installing, but they are BRIIIIIIIGHT!!!!! It was a good day. -------------------------------------------------- Falsus in unum, falsus in omnibus

BRENDA: No I don't have AC and that would be great for the computer and such but would make me too cold. Keeping the curtains closed last summer seemed to work but this year. I don't know what is happening. I've got the fan on the modem and that seems to have snapped the computer back into shape. It was either yesterday or Thursday that I couldn't get the tower to shut off and that was when I brought out the fans for everything. That got the tower and stuff to snap back. So I am at it again today. The wiring overloading is what set off the smoke detector a couple of months ago

That way, if the light circuit breaker pops, you'll still have light in the garage to be able to find your way around. Most rooms, if wired properly, are serviced by at least two different circuit breakers so they will never be entirely without electricity if a circuit breaker blows.

You had a wiring overload that actually caused smoke and set off a smoke detector??? That's some serious shit bc that could start a fire and burn the building down! The circuit breaker should have shut the current off to prevent that! Was it the wires in the wall that overheated, or an electric/electronic device that overheated? AFA your modem and monitor... modems that seriously overheated should be replaced. Many monitors have ventilation slots and internal fans. Vacuum the slots out if they're clogged. ----------- Pity would be no more, If we did not MAKE someone poor - William Blake

It could have been something simple as the battery dying in the smoke detector and instead of replacing it they just turned the device off. I dust everything and as I told Jack. Everything seems to have settled down but I am watching it all carefully.

I can't imagine that they would be allowed, by law, to shut off a smoke detector in an apartment so I imagine it was something else. The weather is very confused here too! Originally it was supposed to be low to mid-80s, then they changed the forecast to mid-80's to 90+ (yesterday it was 93). Now I see there's a chance of showers (RAIN????) tomorrow AM and a bit of a cool-down from predicted- bck to mid-80s for the most part. Like you say, just have to wait and see. ----------- Pity would be no more, If we did not MAKE someone poor - William Blake

I haven't done anything with him outside of hanging around the house since our old man took us to Medieval Times when he was like 5 years old. That's going to be cool. I'm going to take that opportunity to stay over a few nights at my Grandma's and get more work done over there. My aunt has been getting a monster amount of the crap I've cleared out to the curb for trash pickup every week despite the insane heat (100 degrees or above on Tuesday night the last two weeks). I told her to take a break from it this week and only found out last night that she didn't listen to me. So all of the stuff should be out of the garage before I fill it again. Today I go back out to the garage to get more electrical work done. It's going to be hot and miserable, but oh well. If I wait for a cool day to do it I might not be wrapping that up until September. At least it won't be 100 degrees. Now that all of the trash I've been throwing out is gone except for one full can and the lawn stopped growing from lack of rain, I've got two large cans to get the rest of it out. I still have the best of the shelf/boards in there that I'm not going to throw out yet because I might want to use those to fabricate the sides and back of the two lower shelves in the pantry that will have drawer slides on them. One more reason to finally wrap that up so I can get that wood out. But I've got some large/long 1/4" plywood that I need to chop and throw out. It was up by the headers in the porch below the cedar and is pretty lousy wood. I wasn't going to use it for anything else other than putting it back up there, but I've decided that it's not going back up there and I'll either be putting paneling or drywall over everything in the end. -------------------------------------------------- Falsus in unum, falsus in omnibus

I'll bet, seeing as these are elevators in a public bldg, that each step has to be inspected five times over, which might account for the long time they've been working on them sigh. Safety is necessary, but I hope for your sake they finish soon! ----------- Pity would be no more, If we did not MAKE someone poor - William Blake
