You know more about it than I do. I don't think I've ever been a super-fan of anything where I'd be able to pick out a lot of detail like that. You and my brother probably could have ripped Wolverine Origins apart for days when it came out.

I've got zero problem with accurate representation of the people who live here in media. It's stupid that there was pretty much only white leads for so long. My issue comes when they decide to do lazy race and gender swaps of existing properties instead of making new things. I would think a lot of minorities would feel the same way if they were asked and the media didn't hide the results they didn't want to publish.

Yeah. I agree. I only saw the 3rd one once and I don't remember anything about it except that Jessia Biel was in it. I saw that second one in the theater with my brother and was just blown away by that first scene when the vampires were exploding. If I were to watch it again now the special effects probably aren't all that great, but at the time it was thrilling to watch in the theater. Wesley Snipes as blade is one of my favorite comic book adaptations. The mood of those movies were just so cool too.

I gave all of mine to my brother around 3 years back when I did my last de-hoard. I know they've got a good home, but someday I'll regret not having them anymore. At least my dad told me to do some research on the stuff he gave me for Christmas over the years though. I was going to give them all to my brother too. There's probably $3,000 worth of comics in that box I saved (just going off of ebay listings and the prices they'd recently sold for). And probably up until the point that the MCU movies came around they weren't worth more than a couple of hundred bucks. I'd probably have to get them graded though if I ever wanted to sell them for more than a couple of hundred bucks though, and they take a pretty decent cut of the current value to grade them. It's a weird market.

You should start a youtube channel. There's not a lot of women doing that right now... It's not a completely untapped market, but for every woman doing it there's 100 guys doing it. And the women seem to get the high subscriber counts pretty quickly because of the rarity.

Pain that starts in the shoulder and creeps down into your hand is quite possibly NERVE PAIN. I had pain by my right shoulder blade that no amount of stretching or repositioning helped, and eventually crept down my right arm to my right pinky and ring finger. eventually the pain in my fingers lessened to be replaced by numbness and tingling. It was all traced back to a pinched nerve in my NECK.

And THAT was all bc I had the wrong Rx for glasses bc I used to do a LOT of data and report signoffs, both hardcopy and PC, and my glasses forced me to crane my neck forwards bc they weren't at the right focal length. ... I needed more distance from my lenses.

I learned a LOT about nerves and the spine lately! There are nerves that emerge from BETWEEN your vertebrae all up and down your spine, from your neck all the way to your butt, and they reach down your arms, around your ribs, and down your legs. If they are pinched at the point where they emerge from between your vertebrae they can cause pain, numbness, tingling, and eventually weakness all up and down the affected limb.

quite possibly the source of your pain is in your NECK. I would recontact your PT or Dr if possible bc you may have been midiagnosed. Or at least review what you're doing with your neck, and what may have changed. New pillow? New glases? New activity? Differrent posture? Recent strain or injury to your neck?

Another nerve pinchpoint is in the SHOULDER itself. There is a very narrow (2 mm?) gap in the shoulder joint to accomodate the nerve that runs down your arm. Exercises designed for your shoulder may aggravate swelling and inflammation in the shoulder joint, something you want to avoid.

NSAIDS (ibuprofen etc) might help relieve the inflammation. attention to neck posture (chin in, head up) and meds specifically designed for nerve-generated pain (gabapentin, pregabalin) really help, but they interact strongly with anticonvulsants so your would have to get the OK from your neuro.

Nerve pain is not to be messed with.

I haven't seen too many Native American shows on the air, but maybe there are some now and I just don't see them because I don't watch regular TV at all anymore, but by the time I was growing up I'd see them from time to time in shows that I watched. By the time I was growing up, there were already re-runs of shows like Different Strokes and The Cosby Show, and I always watched those when I was little.

I would think that it would be insulting to see that done to basically every single well-known character out there instead of creating new characters to compliment those that already existed back in the days when they were only giving whites the rolls.

The fact that it was a show about cops would have been enough that it didn't hit my radar. Cop shows are obviously SUPER popular because there's never been a time in my life where there weren't a lot of them on TV. I just could never get into them. It's kind of funny that I loved the show HOUSE so much. Even though it took place in a hospital, it was essentially a crime drama, with the criminal being whatever was causing the weekly near-death experience with the patient, while half the show was filled with the personal life stuff of the staff. I just realized right now that House was a cop show.



I do remember Vegas being on TV when I was a kid. But if it wasn't Sci-Fi, Horror or Cartoons I would rather be playing Atari.

I think that's just about everyone now. People aren't going out of their way to be shitty to each other, and yeah... For me taking a white character depending on the show and say making them Native American would be fine even if the character is a cop, fireman, doctor or whatever. I think for generic characters (and by generic I also mean LEAD characters), such as cops, firemen, doctors it's perfectly fine. Go to a hospital, police station, firehouse, school, etc. and that's what you're going to see there. But if you're doing something based off of real people who were bigger than your generic character, there shouldn't be any race/gender swaps for the person. I can't REALLY think of examples where they've done this with real life characters. I do remember at one point buzz around a new movie that would be made with a black Frank Sinatra, but to my knowledge that movie was never made. I mean, hey... feel free to make it. You have that right. Just don't cry when nobody shows up to see your black Frank Sinatra movie.

I do have a problem with the Little Mermaid race swap too. Now I'm not one of those people who are going to go on Twitter and give the actress crap about it, because that's just awful behavior. It's not her fault, and honestly good for her for landing a role that big.

But there was a black mermaid in the Little Mermaid. Did she have a name? Of course she did, but did we ever hear it spoken in the movie? I couldn't answer that. I haven't seen the movie in 30 years. But why not make a story about her? Give her a name if she didn't have one. But that is asking too much from the people currently being staffed in Hollywood. That would require real creativity and creating an entirely new and engaging story from the ground up, that is just set in the Little Mermaid's universe. Nah... too much work. We'll just make Ariel black and call you racist if you don't go and watch it.

They're doing the same thing with the Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power right now on Amazon. It's a terribly boring show, with unlikable characters and a Billion Dollar budget that is turning out to be a huge flop for Amazon. But they take every opportunity they can in the marketing and critic opinion to let you know they crammed as much diversity as possible into their fan-fiction series that is as loosely based as possible off of Tolkien's work.

This Rings of Power takes place in the Second Age, thousands of years before Peter Jackson's movies based off of Tolkien's actual work which took place in the Third Age.

My question now is, what happened to all of the minorities between the Second and Third Age? Did they all die?

My plea to Hollywood would be STOP trying to make everything "represent the world we live in today". That's not your business to do that. They did it with The Witcher. They did it with freakin' Resident Evil. They turned uber-evil white Wesker into a sympathetic black man and dressed him up like Blade. How did they miss the opportunity to make an iconic white racist supervillian the big bad in a show that they crammed a bunch of diversity into? That would have written itself for them. Yeah. It's crazy. It was cold this morning and early afternoon, but it wasn't windy. I had one of the windows open last night, so it was just as cool in the porch as it was outside when I started. It's so cool to see how good that room retains the heat now. It's probably the most well insulated room in my house at this point.


I will show you pics of the attic and the shed work at some point. I think the porch would not be something I'd be comfortable showing though since the windows are huge and show everything around me out side. I couldn't show you the before pics either because what they used to have in place of the windows is so unique (and shitty) that it would make it extremely identifiable.

The fact that it was a show about cops would have been enough that it didn't hit my radar. Cop shows are obviously SUPER popular because there's never been a time in my life where there weren't a lot of them on TV. I just could never get into them. It's kind of funny that I loved the show HOUSE so much. Even though it took place in a hospital, it was essentially a crime drama, with the criminal being whatever was causing the weekly near-death experience with the patient, while half the show was filled with the personal life stuff of the staff. I just realized right now that House was a cop show.



I do remember Vegas being on TV when I was a kid. But if it wasn't Sci-Fi, Horror or Cartoons I would rather be playing Atari.

I think that's just about everyone now. People aren't going out of their way to be shitty to each other, and yeah... I think for generic characters (and by generic I also mean LEAD characters), such as cops, firemen, doctors it's perfectly fine. Go to a hospital, police station, firehouse, school, etc. and that's what you're going to see there. But if you're doing something based off of real people who were bigger than your generic character, there shouldn't be any race/gender swaps for the person. I can't REALLY think of examples where they've done this with real life characters. I do remember at one point buzz around a new movie that would be made with a black Frank Sinatra, but to my knowledge that movie was never made. I mean, hey... feel free to make it. You have that right. Just don't cry when nobody shows up to see your black Frank Sinatra movie.

I do have a problem with the Little Mermaid race swap too. Now I'm not one of those people who are going to go on Twitter and give the actress crap about it, because that's just awful behavior. It's not her fault, and honestly good for her for landing a role that big.

But there was a black mermaid in the Little Mermaid. Did she have a name? Of course she did, but did we ever hear it spoken in the movie? I couldn't answer that. I haven't seen the movie in 30 years. But why not make a story about her? Give her a name if she didn't have one. But that is asking too much from the people currently being staffed in Hollywood. That would require real creativity and creating an entirely new and engaging story from the ground up, that is just set in the Little Mermaid's universe. Nah... too much work. We'll just make Ariel black and call you racist if you don't go and watch it.

They're doing the same thing with the Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power right now on Amazon. It's a terribly boring show, with unlikable characters and a Billion Dollar budget that is turning out to be a huge flop for Amazon. But they take every opportunity they can in the marketing and critic opinion to let you know they crammed as much diversity as possible into their fan-fiction series that is as loosely based as possible off of Tolkien's work.

This Rings of Power takes place in the Second Age, thousands of years before Peter Jackson's movies based off of Tolkien's actual work which took place in the Third Age.

My question now is, what happened to all of the minorities between the Second and Third Age? Did they all die?

My plea to Hollywood would be STOP trying to make everything "represent the world we live in today". That's not your business to do that. They did it with The Witcher. They did it with freakin' Resident Evil. They turned uber-evil white Wesker into a sympathetic black man and dressed him up like Blade. How did they miss the opportunity to make an iconic white racist supervillian the big bad in a show that they crammed a bunch of diversity into? That would have written itself for them. Brenda... I wanted to know if you ever heard of a show called "Jamestown"? I watched two shows with Grams last night that I really liked on public television (bonus that there are NO commercials on those channels. )

The first one was called "Miss Scarlett and the Duke". The second one was "Jamestown". I was really impressed with the first show, but even more so by Jamestown. The Pamunkey tribe has a fairly prominent role in it from what I can gather from the one episode I watched, and they are all portrayed by native Americans. I thought it was pretty cool to be seeing that show right after we were just talking about this.

After the show, they did some behind the scenes info about different aspects of the show and it appears that all of the Native American actors and actresses are thrilled with the work and the accurate portrayal of their ancestors and how in this show they aren't just some plot device.

If you haven't seen it, you may want to check it out for yourself. I will be looking into getting the entire series myself. I don't know if they've already made the 3rd season or if they're making it right now, but there will be at least 3 seasons and you can tell that the people involved in making it really care about making a good story.

(And there's plenty of female empowerment in the story, but unlike Hollywood/Comic Movie trash where the magic powers are unearned and come from magical mcguffins it seems entirely earned.)

Here's a scene from the 2nd season. It's not the episode that I saw. I'm not even sure which season the episode I saw was from. You could tell that there was tension between the Pamunkey and the English in the episode I saw, but they were not hostile toward each other in it.

I've seen a few superhero movies here and there. I like RDJ, saw him first in Air America with Mel Gibson, then Iron Man and a Sherlock Holmes movie. Hugh Jackman does a great job as wolverine, and every time he plays that character is enjyable.

I liked the Hillerman books a lot, but there was never a series on American television, just the odd movie here and there which I thought was a shame bc the stories were engaging and I got to know a little bit about Navajos (and their neighbors, the Hopi), at least as Hillerman saw them at the time. I'm sure the culture has changed quite a bit since then, as all cultures do. I wish there was a writer today who would write about that area as well as Hillerman did then,

Well... Here's an example of how NOT to market something.

Had I seen this trailer, I would never have watched the show.

Whereas I don't know what episode of Jamestown I watched, it was obvious that I watched the very first episode of Miss Scarlett and the Duke, because it appeared to be her "origin story".

Unlike the trailer which apparently is marketed to women who want to watch a nasty woman get her way and have the upper hand in every situation no matter what because "woman", that trailer is not at all representative of the show.

She's actually quite charismatic, and although she comes off as extremely sure of herself, that's not just because she knows she's good at what she aims to do but it's because of her own insecurities as well. She makes mistakes in the show, some of them having pretty terrible consequences, but then she gets back on the horse and works to correct them.

The trailer makes her look like a boring, intolerable Mary Sue. I can assure you that's not the case and (at least as far as the first episode goes), it's worth a watch.

That's cool. Sometimes I see actors on TV that remind me of my old man too. When I watched War of the Worlds (the TV show from 1988) with my dad, the character of Colonel Ironhorse played by Richard Chaves really made me think of him. What was funny was that about 20 years later I got him to watch both seasons of the show again after I'd watched it and he told me that Ironhorse reminded him of me.

Outside of Chances are, I knew him from Weird Science and Soapdish. If you look at his IMDB profile, he never missed a year of work. But he was relegated to supporting cast when he would have been a star. I'm glad he got a reboot with Iron Man.
