Only painted about 2/5ths of the ceiling after getting everything else done. I wasn't really feeling it today anyhow, but the clouds, wind and rain came in and I lost my sunlight, making it very hard to see the tiles overhead.

Unless I get some light out there tomorrow, I may not be painting the ceiling tomorrow either since its' supposed to be cold and rainy all day. I might have to figure out something else to do in the mean time. I will at least put the two finish coats up on the primed repair boards in the shed tomorrow if nothing else.

One thing that I did take out of the hoard basement was a stack of Pokemon cards about the size of a deck of cards. I never had any myself, but I knew that some of them were worth money.

Not knowing anything about them, I got pretty excited when I saw the prices some of them were going for. But then I found out that none of them are from the 1st edition sets and they all come from the 3rd edition. Still though, they're all about 20 years old and in pretty decent shape. The stack is probably worth around $400 if I took the time to put them up on an auction site and wait for the right buyers.

But that damn Charizard. If only it were 1st edition instead of 3rd. It'd be worth at least $10k in the condition it's in.

You know more about it than I do. I don't think I've ever been a super-fan of anything where I'd be able to pick out a lot of detail like that. You and my brother probably could have ripped Wolverine Origins apart for days when it came out.

My issue comes when they decide to do lazy race and gender swaps of existing properties instead of making new things. I would think a lot of minorities would feel the same way if they were asked and the media didn't hide the results they didn't want to publish.

What do you think about that, Brenda?

Yeah. I agree. I only saw the 3rd one once and I don't remember anything about it except that Jessia Biel was in it. I saw that second one in the theater with my brother and was just blown away by that first scene when the vampires were exploding. If I were to watch it again now the special effects probably aren't all that great, but at the time it was thrilling to watch in the theater. Wesley Snipes as blade is one of my favorite comic book adaptations. The mood of those movies were just so cool too.

I never saw the 2nd or 3rd ones, but I did like the 1st one when my brother had me watch it. I always liked RJD, and he was in one of the few Rom-Coms that I actually liked. I think it was called After All or Chances Are. I think it had some time travel element, or maybe reincarnation in it. I remember when one of my girlfriends was sick I got her some soup from her favorite restaurant and rented that and watched it with her.

It was a bummer but their kids had no interest in keeping the business running after their parents died. My comics had a good home for a few months. They were bagged and in boxes with a count and what comics were in what box.

They probably weren't worth anything much because of the time you were collecting them (like mine), but it's a shame you didn't have the space to keep them. I gave all of mine to my brother around 3 years back when I did my last de-hoard. I know they've got a good home, but someday I'll regret not having them anymore. At least my dad told me to do some research on the stuff he gave me for Christmas over the years though. I was going to give them all to my brother too. There's probably $3,000 worth of comics in that box I saved (just going off of ebay listings and the prices they'd recently sold for). And probably up until the point that the MCU movies came around they weren't worth more than a couple of hundred bucks. I'd probably have to get them graded though if I ever wanted to sell them for more than a couple of hundred bucks though, and they take a pretty decent cut of the current value to grade them. It's a weird market.

Quote:

I didn't tear into them but I did complain about them here and to a couple of friends who know I watch those movies. And know I had the comics.

You should start a youtube channel. There's not a lot of women doing that right now... It's not a completely untapped market, but for every woman doing it there's 100 guys doing it. And the women seem to get the high subscriber counts pretty quickly because of the rarity.

Maybe when I get more time during the winter and things slow down I can look into it for you. Try to remind me though. My memory is getting foggy. I recently got locked out of an account of mine because I couldn't remember what my favorite babysitter's name was.

Yeah. I just heard that it's not coming out until "Phase 6", and we're still in "Phase 4". I thought this was going to be soon until I heard that last night.

I think I may still try to finish that coat on the ceiling today despite the cold and dark. I'll have to see how the coat dried on the tiles I did yesterday first. It was pretty demoralizing looking up and thinking that I'd need a 3rd coat of enamel, but maybe I'll get lucky and it will look great when it's dry.

I think my main focus today though will be to get two coats on those repair boards in the shed so I'm ready to put the final coat on the tops and fronts of the shelves next week, cutting down some more crap boards from the attic now that I've got two empty cans for them and getting my paint inside. It's only going down to 38 tonight, but now that we're hitting the 30's at night I don't want to have 12 cans of paint and my huge bucket of foundation tar sitting out there overnight anymore. I'll just have to take paint from outside of the house as needed and bring it back in when I'm done for the day.

Well, I had Wolverine comics from pretty early in the series through all the middle of it and through some of the 1990s, so I know a lot about the character.

"The Beachcombers" ran for a long time up here and so I was watching it new in elementary school.
As I got older my lament was always not enough representation of minorities on tv. People like me and my family being mixed blood or full blood. But it was always hard for us to break into the business. We always had to hide who we were to get work it seems to me in Hollywood in tv or movies until the late 70 into the 80s and now. I agree with you on the lazy writing or whatever in movies or tv. I've stopped watching tv series because the writing got crappy and movies too.

I'm sure most minorities would agree that there needs to be more representation if asked in a decent question.

The 3rd Blade movie left me cold after the killed Whistler again basically after spending all that time rescuing him in the 2nd. Too many added characters as well to make up a whole crew for Blade. Didn't need them.

Sometimes you do. The final scenes as Sheridan says good bye to Delenn and when he is on White Star One waiting and then is taken. Just all so touching and the lines for Sheridan were just perfect.

He seems like a good actor Robert Downey Jr. I just haven't seen much of his work.

They probably weren't. I got around $150Canadian for all of them when I sold them back to him. Mind I bought a huge chunk of them from him. *L* I do regret that I had to do that but I just had no choice.

Ah, I don't have the gear for a youtube channel and my mouth isn't up to prime time right now. Still need more dental work.

I've thought about looking up some of my old comics but I have problems remembering the covers for them. *L*

Yup. I had a good moan when I heard the year and I may have said, "That sucks" to the tv.

Pain that starts in the shoulder and creeps down into your hand is quite possibly NERVE PAIN. I had pain by my right shoulder blade that no amount of stretching or repositioning helped, and eventually crept down my right arm to my right pinky and ring finger. eventually the pain in my fingers lessened to be replaced by numbness and tingling. It was all traced back to a pinched nerve in my NECK.

And THAT was all bc I had the wrong Rx for glasses bc I used to do a LOT of data and report signoffs, both hardcopy and PC, and my glasses forced me to crane my neck forwards bc they weren't at the right focal length. ... I needed more distance from my lenses.

I learned a LOT about nerves and the spine lately! There are nerves that emerge from BETWEEN your vertebrae all up and down your spine, from your neck all the way to your butt, and they reach down your arms, around your ribs, and down your legs. If they are pinched at the point where they emerge from between your vertebrae they can cause pain, numbness, tingling, and eventually weakness all up and down the affected limb.

quite possibly the source of your pain is in your NECK. I would recontact your PT or Dr if possible bc you may have been midiagnosed. Or at least review what you're doing with your neck, and what may have changed. New pillow? New glases? New activity? Differrent posture? Recent strain or injury to your neck?

Another nerve pinchpoint is in the SHOULDER itself. There is a very narrow (2 mm?) gap in the shoulder joint to accomodate the nerve that runs down your arm. Exercises designed for your shoulder may aggravate swelling and inflammation in the shoulder joint, something you want to avoid.

NSAIDS (ibuprofen etc) might help relieve the inflammation. attention to neck posture (chin in, head up) and meds specifically designed for nerve-generated pain (gabapentin, pregabalin) really help, but they interact strongly with anticonvulsants so your would have to get the OK from your neuro.

Nerve pain is not to be messed with.

I'll be okay SIG. And the last time I was in the PT's office I asked about a pinched nerve and she said no. It's all just taking a while to heal which is why I am trying to be as gentle as possible with my right arm.

My neck is messed up anyways from the brain surgery all those years ago. The PT heard it snap at my last appointment with her and I told her not to worry because it was because of the brain surgery. I do neck stretches when I am sitting in front of the computer and when I am watching tv. I am also doing the arm exercises that the PT has recommended.

I have no faith in PTs, especially PTs diagnosing things. They're not trained to diagnose, and since their specialization is physical therapy they will make the diagnosis fit the treatment that they have to offer. It's the old problem of "If all you have is a hammer everything looks like a nail".

In my case, the answer wasn't exercise or stretching or any of the cr#p they recommended, it was a new pair of glasses, and they weren't the ones that figured that out, it was me.

I think they're just blowing you off. If your condition progresses to numbness and tingling, I think you should escalate your complaint.

BYW, I don't necessarily believe everything doctors have to say, either. My doctor... and I like her and trust her quite a bit... took one look at my neck X-ray and wanted me to see a spine surgeon RIGHT AWAY. I didn't do that, either.

Put two coats of paint on the shed repairs up top and now the shed is all done except for the final coat on the top and the sides of the shelving. It probably doesn't need it, but I've got half a gallon of that paint left and the more protection on the surface the better. I'm not going to be buying a bunch of contact paper to protect them like I did in the cabinets and pantry. That would just be crazy.

I finished the 2nd coat of enamel paint on the ceiling. It might actually be good. I'll have to see what it looks like on Monday after a few days curing. I have some leftover, so I might go back and hit those first 18 tiles before I found my groove and really got good coverage. Other than that, I'm ready to start painting the walls now finally too.

Got a few disgusting boards from the attic cut up and thrown in the trash, and I brought all of my paint, tar and various caulk tubes inside in case it gets down to freezing or close to it tonight. We'll still have 2 or 3 weeks of warm weather, but today was the coldest day in the forecast for October and tonight looks to be getting dangerously close to freezing.

The great news is that my insulation is working good. I painted out there all day with the windows closed wearing just a t-shirt and jeans and it was more than comfortable. I couldn't believe how cold and windy it had gotten when I finished that and went out for the final coat of paint on those shed repairs. It had to be 20 degrees colder outside, maybe more with the wind chill.

Not bad for an unheated room... although I'm not heating anything until November.

Yeah. I can't believe it. I've been on a roll ever since I started trenching out the foundation for the tar/grates/rocks, and I've barely taken a minute to slow down. If I'm not doing stuff here I'm out helping my bud at his house, and I'll be helping my grandma and aunt this weekend now. My friend's dad coming over and helping kick start the porch work was a huge catalyst for so many things I thought might still not be done years from now.

Quote:

Yeah. It's crazy. It was cold this morning and early afternoon, but it wasn't windy. I had one of the windows open last night, so it was just as cool in the porch as it was outside when I started. It's so cool to see how good that room retains the heat now. It's probably the most well insulated room in my house at this point.

I will show you pics of the attic and the shed work at some point. I think the porch would not be something I'd be comfortable showing though since the windows are huge and show everything around me out side. I couldn't show you the before pics either because what they used to have in place of the windows is so unique (and shitty) that it would make it extremely identifiable.

Maybe I'll show you the porch when I finish it but I'll black out the glass.

Im' glad your back. I noticed a week had gone by and you hadn't posted. You probably haven't read through the posts but I was asking where you were last night. Is everything good?

I haven't seen too many Native American shows on the air, but maybe there are some now and I just don't see them because I don't watch regular TV at all anymore, but by the time I was growing up I'd see them from time to time in shows that I watched. By the time I was growing up, there were already re-runs of shows like Different Strokes and The Cosby Show, and I always watched those when I was little.

I only dabbled in comics. And when I was buying them I usually was wrapping them up and not even reading them, just thinking about the millions of dollars I was going to have with all the #1 issues I bought up that aren't worth the paper they're printed on today.

I loved the X-Men cartoon and video games though.

I'm sure that we'll get back to good writing and good directing. They're just losing so much money now and the usual tactics they've been doing to guilt people into seeing bad stuff just isn't working anymore.

Quote:

Oh... that's not the question I was asking. That goes without saying. What I was asking you was do you think that minorities are just as tired as seeing race swaps of white characters as white people are? (I'm already subscribed to women on YouTube who are tired of seeing the constant gender swaps). I would think that it would be insulting to see that done to basically every single well-known character out there instead of creating new characters to compliment those that already existed back in the days when they were only giving whites the rolls.

I mean, it's so bad right now that even though there would be no reason to race-swap Blade because he was already a black character, I'm absolutely dreading Blade's upcoming introduction into the MCU because I know they're going to load it with politics and "The Message" and it's going to be unwatchable. I don't even know how you can screw Blade up to that degree, but mark my words they're going to make us want to re-watch Blade 3.

Then once I started hitting high school there were more American shows with Native American characters on them.

Well, I had Wolverine comics from pretty early in the series through all the middle of it and through some of the 1990s, so I know a lot about the character.

I only dabbled in comics. And when I was buying them I usually was wrapping them up and not even reading them, just thinking about the millions of dollars I was going to have with all the #1 issues I bought up that aren't worth the paper they're printed on today.

I loved the X-Men cartoon and video games though.

[quote"The Beachcombers" ran for a long time up here and so I was watching it new in elementary school.

I'm sure that we'll get back to good writing and good directing. They're just losing so much money now and the usual tactics they've been doing to guilt people into seeing bad stuff just isn't working anymore.

Quote:

I'm sure most minorities would agree that there needs to be more representation if asked in a decent question.

Oh... that's not the question I was asking. That goes without saying. What I was asking you was do you think that minorities are just as tired as seeing race swaps of white characters as white people are? There was a run of tv movies based on a set of books by Tony Hillerman and his main character and pretty well all the characters were Native American. Wes Studi worked on them. The character was an Apache cop who had gone to LA with his wife but when she got sick, she wanted to go home to their reserve. They did that and he went to work for the local Apache police force. Good shows and so good that I found one of Hillerman's books on sale somewhere and bought it. The title of the book I bought is the "Walking Wind". Outside of these tv movies which were made in the 90s and something streaming now, there weren't. Most of the shows I watched growing up had characters that were Native American. A show called "Vegas" from the 80s had the late actor Will Sampson on it and he was Native American. Things like that.

You have a point about the guilting. I don't bother with things if they don't look good to me.

I always read the ones I bought then I would bag them and put them into their box. *L* I loved the X-Men cartoon. Watched the whole series as an adult.

Sorry, I misunderstood your question about the race swapping. This is a hard question to answer because you are asking me to speak for every minority and I can't. For me taking a white character depending on the show and say making them Native American would be fine even if the character is a cop, fireman, doctor or whatever. Even a character who is mixed blood could fit into any of those spots. Because that is reality. A movie about a fairy tale like "The Little Mermaid", shouldn't matter.

I'll watch the new Blade and decide for myself what I think. If they go too far, I will just stick to the original 2 movies.

Exactly and B5 gave us a lot of great scenes between all the characters. I don't think I saw that show fall down once on writing.

I know Robert Downey Jr. had a boat load of troubles like addiction. But outside of that I don't think I ever heard of the guy before Iron Man.

My last comic count before I sold them was around 1,000.

Never know. I try not to shut doors on anything.

Exactly. I might be able to remember pieces of the story lines in them and then just hope that I don't mix stories up.

That is what they say. So, I shall be waiting. I need more Wolverine.

The fact that it was a show about cops would have been enough that it didn't hit my radar. Cop shows are obviously SUPER popular because there's never been a time in my life where there weren't a lot of them on TV. I just could never get into them. It's kind of funny that I loved the show HOUSE so much. Even though it took place in a hospital, it was essentially a crime drama, with the criminal being whatever was causing the weekly near-death experience with the patient, while half the show was filled with the personal life stuff of the staff. I just realized right now that House was a cop show.

I do remember Vegas being on TV when I was a kid. But if it wasn't Sci-Fi, Horror or Cartoons I would rather be playing Atari.

I think that's just about everyone now. People aren't going out of their way to be shitty to each other, and yeah... I can see why there was a reservoir of undercurrent guilt about the state of affairs, even if the people alive today weren't the ones responsible for it. But that well is finite. And it's probably a shame that it was dried up over the last decade mostly by "entertainment", protecting untalented people in charge of that "entertainment", and that it wasn't put to a more productive use.

Oh no... I'm not asking you to speak for all minorities. Sorry if it was phrased that way. I just wanted to know your opinion on it.

I think for generic characters (and by generic I also mean LEAD characters), such as cops, firemen, doctors it's perfectly fine. Go to a hospital, police station, firehouse, school, etc. and that's what you're going to see there. But if you're doing something based off of real people who were bigger than your generic character, there shouldn't be any race/gender swaps for the person. I can't REALLY think of examples where they've done this with real life characters. I do remember at one point buzz around a new movie that would be made with a black Frank Sinatra, but to my knowledge that movie was never made. I mean, hey... feel free to make it. You have that right. Just don't cry when nobody shows up to see your black Frank Sinatra movie.

I do have a problem with the Little Mermaid race swap too. Now I'm not one of those people who are going to go on Twitter and give the actress crap about it, because that's just awful behavior. It's not her fault, and honestly good for her for landing a role that big.

But there was a black mermaid in the Little Mermaid. Did she have a name? Of course she did, but did we ever hear it spoken in the movie? I couldn't answer that. I haven't seen the movie in 30 years. But why not make a story about her? Give her a name if she didn't have one. But that is asking too much from the people currently being staffed in Hollywood. That would require real creativity and creating an entirely new and engaging story from the ground up, that is just set in the Little Mermaid's universe. Nah... too much work. We'll just make Ariel black and call you racist if you don't go and watch it.

They're doing the same thing with the Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power right now on Amazon. It's a terribly boring show, with unlikable characters and a Billion Dollar budget that is turning out to be a huge flop for Amazon. But they take every opportunity they can in the marketing and critic opinion to let you know they crammed as much diversity as possible into their fan-fiction series that is as loosely based as possible off of Tolkien's work.

This Rings of Power takes place in the Second Age, thousands of years before Peter Jackson's movies based off of Tolkien's actual work which took place in the Third Age.

My question now is, what happened to all of the minorities between the Second and Third Age? Did they all die?

My plea to Hollywood would be STOP trying to make everything "represent the world we live in today". That's not your business to do that. They did it with The Witcher. They did it with freakin' Resident Evil. They turned uber-evil white Wesker into a sympathetic black man and dressed him up like Blade. How did they miss the opportunity to make an iconic white racist supervillian the big bad in a show that they crammed a bunch of diversity into? That would have written itself for them. Instead they get cancelled after one season just like their Cowboy BeBop live action representation experiment got cancelled.

Make new stuff. Make new characters. Representation is fine. It's great. I'd say, it's even necessary in our evolving world. But taking characters that had been white for decades or even centuries and making them black or Chinese or Mexican or whatever is lazy, incompetent and insulting to everyone in the audience.

Quote:

Yeah. I'll have to give that one a shot too. Man I hope they do it justice. A lot of the gross crowd that have been ruining so many things have already been fired or are on the chopping block in this economy. Hopefully they get some real talent behind Blade.

Quote:

It's amazing how much heat a person's body tosses off, isn't it?

Yeah.

I'm looking forward to the pix!

I missed the last para.

I'll be in and out, mostly out, for a while. spine surgery is a long surgery and a Big Deal, and hubby's 2-3 day hospital stay turned into a 1-week ordeal with me campng out in his room, mostly due to a strange reaction to anesthesia. Home now, finally!

FWIW I hate a lot of the PC remakes, too. SOME roles you can credibly recreate for any sex, race, age or (sometimes) even species ... the heroic/clever/ captain/soundrel, for example.

But River's emergence as some sort of unstoppable fighting machine? I don't care how quik or agile or skilled you are, if you're up against someone literally twice your size and you don't have a weapon to multiply your power (yanno, like a gun) all they need is SOME training and experience bc their sheer size gives them natural advantage. I and my judo sparring partner (back when I took judo) were at the same levl of training but he had about 30 lbs of muscle (he was on the wrestling and swim team) and a couple of inches on me and there was no way in hell I could ever take him on in a real fight. Physics wins every time.

Vegas ran while I was in high school and a friend of mine loved Robert Urich. I couldn't really get into the show except for Will Sampson's character whose name was Chief Two Feathers, if I'm right. Don't quote me on that and I think the reason for it outside just his being Native was he reminded me of my dad. Will Sampson was a tall man and probably weighed in the range of 200 pounds. My dad was tall and was around 175 pounds. Will Sampson wore his hair long. My dad didn't but they shared the same black hair and skin colour and black eyes. Facial structure with the high cheek bones. Sort of gravelly voiced.

I have never been able to find X-Men the cartoon on YouTube to rewatch it. I've tried and tried but nope. Wolverine was always my favourite but Gambit is a close second for me too.

I don't have the energy to spare on people being idiots. Dealt with too many idiots in RL.

Sorry again. My brain just doesn't want to process your question.

For generic characters as I said it's fine to have whatever race represent them because that is the world we live in.
Historic characters have to be left alone in my opinion as then you are tampering with the history you are trying to tell.

I know nothing about "The Little Mermaid" outside that she wanted to live her life her way. Never was one for fairy tales even as a child. Don't think I have ever read anything written by Hans Christian Anderson. Saw the movie loosely based on his life with Danny Kaye playing Anderson. Saw that when I was a child and loved it and Danny Kaye. So, the mermaid thing doesn't bother me though I think if parents or other figures like that are so bent out of shape about it, do some research and then answer any questions the children around you may have. That is the simple and reasonable way to deal with it.

I've never read Tolkein or seen the movies. I've heard that the Amazon series is crappy. And I'm not much on horror movies as it is.

I remember hearing people shatting all over "Dances with Wolves" when it came out because they couldn't understand it or wouldn't try to understand it. Basically it's talking about the end of the horse culture of the Plains Indian. That film rips my heart out.

Have to see about the reboot of Blade. I want to see something good and maybe worth buying.

I really don't remember Robert Downey Jr. before his troubles. Knew about Charlie Sheen and Emeilio Estevez from before Charlie went off the rails.

I will and I can always rewatch the X-Men movies I have.

Well, laundry done and vampires as well. Having a sit down now.

24C right now which is around 78F. Very warm for this time of the year. My corner of BC is officially in a drought. But it is also why there are still wildfires burning in Province. There might be a slim chance of rain on Monday but it won't be much.

I'll give better replies tomorrow, but I'm beat. Got back from doing some huge work over at my grandma's the last two days. If I can manage to fix her tub, it will be like a real house again sometime soon.

Good to see you Sigs. I hope the medical stuff goes well for you and your husband. Do try to come around here if you have the time.

Brenda... I wanted to know if you ever heard of a show called "Jamestown"? I watched two shows with Grams last night that I really liked on public television (bonus that there are NO commercials on those channels. )

The first one was called "Miss Scarlett and the Duke". The second one was "Jamestown". I was really impressed with the first show, but even more so by Jamestown. The Pamunkey tribe has a fairly prominent role in it from what I can gather from the one episode I watched, and they are all portrayed by native Americans. I thought it was pretty cool to be seeing that show right after we were just talking about this.

After the show, they did some behind the scenes info about different aspects of the show and it appears that all of the Native American actors and actresses are thrilled with the work and the accurate portrayal of their ancestors and how in this show they aren't just some plot device.

If you haven't seen it, you may want to check it out for yourself. I will be looking into getting the entire series myself. I don't know if they've already made the 3rd season or if they're making it right now, but there will be at least 3 seasons and you can tell that the people involved in making it really care about making a good story.

(And there's plenty of female empowerment in the story, but unlike Hollywood/Comic Movie trash where the magic powers are unearned and come from magical mcguffins it seems entirely earned.)

Here's a scene from the 2nd season. It's not the episode that I saw. I'm not even sure which season the episode I saw was from. You could tell that there was tension between the Pamunkey and the English in the episode I saw, but they were not hostile toward each other in it.

Wish I could add to the conversation about superhero characters but I don't know much about them. But your posts are interesting.

I've seen a few superhero movies here and there. I like RDJ, saw him first in Air America with Mel Gibson, then Iron Man and a Sherlock Holmes movie. There are some actors that invest so much authenticity in their characters that it doesn't matter what they're in, they make the role shine. RDJ was one, and it was a shame he lost most of his prime acting years to addiction.

Ron Glass was another. He used to be in NYC cop show called Barney Miller and played such an entitled do-nothing little poppinjay so well that I actually came to despise the character as much as I came to like his character in Firefly.

Hugh Jackman does a great job as wolverine, and every time he plays that character is enjyable.

I liked the Hillerman books a lot, but there was never a series on American television, just the odd movie here and there which I thought was a shame bc the stories were engaging and I got to know a little bit about Navajos (and their neighbors, the Hopi), at least as Hillerman saw them at the time. I'm sure the culture has changed quite a bit since then, as all cultures do. I wish there was a writer today who would write about that area as well as Hillerman did then,

I remember Barney Miller. I was never much into it but it was funny and all the characters were quite well rounded.

No, there were just odd tv movies done on Hillerman's books and they were aired up here on PBS. If I'm right. I don't remember now. I enjoyed them and thank you. Navajo was Wes Studi's character. Been too long.

Finished 2 of the walls in the porch and cut in the first coat of the darker color on the other two walls.

In between drying time on the first two walls, I managed to put the last coat of paint on the tops and fronts of the two big shelves in the shed.

Shed work is done for the year. Attic work is done until I get insulation on sale and finish that up. All of the painting in the porch will be finished tomorrow. Depending on the weather I will clean out the gap between the slab behind the porch and the finished tar and get the self-leveling caulk in there after cutting the backer rod for it. Forecast changed though, so there might be some rain which will keep me from doing that for now. Plenty of cleanup to do though if nothing else tomorrow.

Well... Here's an example of how NOT to market something.

Had I seen this trailer, I would never have watched the show.

Whereas I don't know what episode of Jamestown I watched, it was obvious that I watched the very first episode of Miss Scarlett and the Duke, because it appeared to be her "origin story".

Unlike the trailer which apparently is marketed to women who want to watch a nasty woman get her way and have the upper hand in every situation no matter what because "woman", that trailer is not at all representative of the show.

She's actually quite charismatic, and although she comes off as extremely sure of herself, that's not just because she knows she's good at what she aims to do but it's because of her own insecurities as well. She makes mistakes in the show, some of them having pretty terrible consequences, but then she gets back on the horse and works to correct them.

The trailer makes her look like a boring, intolerable Mary Sue. I can assure you that's not the case and (at least as far as the first episode goes), it's worth a watch.

I never read Hans either, but the character has been white almost 200 years now and it's just insulting to everybody to change it for some virtue signalling points.

And Disney already bastardized the story as it was with The Little Mermaid that they made with the Hollywood ending. Years before I saw that, my brothers and I watched the 1975 version that my dad rented from the library and she dies at the end of it. I could have sworn that the copy we had was called "The Littlest Mermaid", but internet searches just show it as also being called The Little Mermaid (1975). My dad would usually tape stuff he rented for us with two VCRs, but my middle brother cried at the end of it and so my dad didn't record it and I'd never seen it again.

Boy... the forecast REALLY changed around me. We went from 75 degrees high and 67 degrees low tonight with no rain until tomorrow night to 73 high and 59 low with rain all day and night and a heavy thunderstorm tomorrow.

I guess I won't be putting the self leveling caulk down today.

I'll have to do some internet research on the product. Unbelievably, it doesn't say at all what temps to apply it or how long it takes to cure and be watertight. What a dumb thing not to have on this specific product.

We've got a LOT of nights in the 30's coming up that weren't in the forecast until November just a week ago, so maybe the hurricane is having unexpected effects or something?

I'm still not turning the heat on until November.

I'm hoping the caulk can go down any time it's not going to freeze in a 48 hour period. If that's the case, I should still be able to get it down before the snow falls.

Raining now...

I did a little bit of cleanup after rolling the first coat out. Aside from cutting down a few more boards, there's not too much I really can do though until I finish the insulation in the shed. I forgot that the very bottom needs "platforms" made out of my styrofoam insulation under the floor and some insulation shoved in between that and the insulation I put up on the wall because the floor of the porch actually "hovers" over the area between the shed and the porch. I want to get that all insulated before I move anything back in there. Not a job for today. I just want to get that last coat of paint up and maybe do a little cleaning.

One of my friends is going to pick up all my metal too, but even though I mentioned it to him 2 weeks ago it will probably be 2 weeks until he can get out here and get it. I'm considering just leaving it on the curb so I don't have to find a temporary spot for it that isn't in the way.

First coat looks great. I'm getting better at working with cheap paint that isn't advertised as one coat coverage. It's impossible to get one coat with this stuff, but at least I won't need to do three.

I just ordered my screwless decorative wall plates and a really sleek looking LED wall lamp for the fixture that was an outdoor porch lamp before the porch addition. Can't wait to get everything installed. I would have just picked up the wall plates at the store, but they're twice as much as I paid for them 2 years ago. At Lowes now they're 250% more than I paid 2 years ago!!!

The only other actor that reminds of me of my dad now is Kevin Costner since he's hit his 60s. Again he must weight around 180pound range and tall like my dad with that slight paunch some men seem to get and he's also part Native American. I tried watching his latest project called, "Yellowstone" but I can't get into it. Too soap operay for me but when I saw him all I saw was my dad. The only difference is that he hasn't got black hair or black eyes or dark skin, it's just the way he carries himself in the show that reminds me.

It is the most reasonable way to deal with things. But it seems like adults don't necessarily want to nowadays.

I know from the story of the Little Mermaid she was white. I just never gave it much thought as I've never really read a lot of fairy tales even when I was a child or seen movies based on them.

Oh, I'm sure the X-Men cartoon is somewhere. I think it was released on DVD and I saw it once years ago but never again. Gambit was and the actor who voiced him is Canadian. His name is Chris Potter and he worked on "Kung Fu: The Legend Continues" playing Peter Caine, Caine's son and it was filmed up here in Toronto.

I do the samething at times at my seniors centre. I can't abide ignorance and I have to correct it when I run into it. Though that's when I end up offending someone.

Should have known Tolkein was fantasy. I must have forgot.

I've seen "Dances with Wolves" at least twice myself and have a copy of it. I remember pieces of it, specially the ending.

No, they seem to be talking a lot about the Blade reboot. Maybe next year.

I've heard of "Weird Science" but I don't think I ever saw it. I've seen both Charlie and Emelio in "Young Guns" I and II. Both excellent films.

Don't know. There aren't many older British actors around.

BRENDA

Back from my walk and met up with one of the ladies who used to come in and help look after my mom. We had lunch together and nice long talk. She had an hour's break in her work and was hoping she would see someone. I had a feeling I would run into someone, just didn't know who.

Second coat up. Been doing some general cleanup since then, but waiting for the paint to dry so I can see if it needs a third roll before I clean up the paint and the tools. I know it doesn't need a third brush.

So exciting. It looks so good.

Well, I have an idea what your dad looked like, BRENDA. He was a good looking man!

He was. And I graciously accept that compliment on his behalf.

Edited add: Though I am a little bit biased.

Cool. 2 coats was all the dark color needed.

I don't know if you remember when I was painting the kitchen and living room Sigs, but I think I put a few pictures of what this same dark color looked like on the accent wall that spanned the entire first floor after only two coats. The sheen was off toward the ceiling and just looked really bad if you were standing anywhere to the side of the wall and not looking directly at it.

That didn't happen to either color here. I applied the paint thicker on both coats and also started the paint by putting a horizontal coat along the floor and the ceiling before going vertical along with some other things I did that are hard to explain in words. All things you don't have to do if you're not rocking the cheap paint.

I can already tell that at least 7 months out of the year this is going to be my favorite room. I can't wait to put my 2nd futon out there and take naps with all that fresh air.

Too late for that this year though. Today is almost certainly the last day to reach 70 degrees and we're in for a monster thunderstorm and then it's 50's for the next 3 or 4 days.

I'm going to try to install that foam board insulation at the bottom of the wall in the shed, but I don't know how easy that's going to be with all the wind and rain today. If I can get that done I can finally snap some finished pics of the shed before moving stuff back in there and finally taking my garage back. I have to make sure I get the rest of the trash out because tomorrow is garbage day. I'm going to just put the old roll up door out on the street. I've got plenty of metal to give my friend when he stops by without it, and I'm sure my neighbors have grown tired of it sitting in the middle of the sand pit for over a month and a half now. I know I have.

Out for my walk in a bit and I had to look up a weather channel to see what happened to that wind storm. Looks like it pretty much petered out before it could do serious damage. There were some power outages but nothing major and no major rain which is very much needed in my province. There are still fires burning and also some brush fires starting now at the sides of roads but these I think are being started by people with cigarette butts or maybe a piece of hot debris off of roads.

Finished the bottom wall/floor insulation and it worked out excellently. Cut up the rest of that 4x8 sheet to insulate the 11" gap on the far wall of the shed. I don't know if I'll actually insulate the whole roof out there, but I didn't need it for anything else and didn't want to just throw it away.

So the shed is pretty much officially done. I will be doing some electrical work out there and in the attic, but probably not until next year, so I was able to move a few big things back into the shed and out of the garage. Got a ton of cleanup done in the garage today and then I screwed all of the plug outlets into the wall in the porch.

All of the paint, tar and caulk is now inside and properly put away. What remains all fits on my paint shelf in the basement, so I don't have 10 gallons of paint on the floor in my coat closet anymore.

House cleanup day tomorrow, with a few minor tasks to wrap up out in the porch to go along with it. Need to finally do some chores. My old man is visiting on Friday to see all the new work.

Didn't get to too much house cleaning today. I'll probably get some done, but after being out in the cold and depressing wind most of the day I'm really not feeling it.

I finished cleaning up the garage, wrapped up the A/C unit for the year, turned off the spigots, and put the final light switch in the porch. I had to run to the store to get one since the only one I had was a damn 3 way switch I don't even know why I have. I think some idiot returned it in the regular box and only got $2 back for a $6 switch and I got stuck with it somehow.

Oh well...

I actually slept in until almost 9AM this morning. I can't even remember the last day I wasn't up before 7:30 or earlier.

I'm glad warmer weather is still making a comeback. I hate winter. :(

ETA: Wow. Glad I took the time to do the winterization today. I was just doing it out of convenience since I'm done painting and didn't need the hose after I finished using it today. I just checked the weather and there's a freeze warning tonight.
