And I have to say, not dealing with trolls and having actual fact-based discussions with people feels great!

Quote:Glad it finally stopped raining by you. First year in the last 5 that it didn't rain a ton all summer and I'm loving it. Almost forgot how bad it can be when it doesn't stop raining. Fingers crossed when I get the gutters up and fix the known crack in my foundation that days of bailing out my basement are done.

Quote:Originally posted by SIGNYM: Well, it's been a few days since I've been here. I sent some info to hubby's retirement administrator, got an entirely unsatisfactory answer back, so I had to compile a complete timeline of what money went where and show them their mistake and why we should get reimbursed. I'll be sending that email off in a bit. Also FINALLY found someone trustworthy to be our daughter's trust protector. We do have a trustee, but, as they say: who watches the watchers? I feel greatly relieved. Now all I have to do is go over the trust (again) and compile all of the revisions I would like to make. There were some provisions in it that I found questionable and learned (online) that they should be stricken. Also, I need to make a strategic flowchart to make sure that all possibilities have been addressed. Did I mention I hate paperwork and legalese? HAD to go in to get an eye exam: my eyes have changed so much that I absolutely cannot see without my glasses, and not very well with them either. Meanwhile, we had a some foggy nights a while back, and those silver spots on the zucchini leaves that I thought were some sort of color variegation were powdery mildew, because my gosh, was my zucchini decimated after those humid nights! So I turned to agricultural copper complex (a very pretty blue), cut off the worst-affected leaves, and hope that with regular spraying I can retrieve the new leaves. One of the watermelons is ready to harvest. I hope I haven't left it on the vine too long! Gardening is definitely learn-by-doing. ----------- Pity would be no more, If we did not MAKE men poor - William Blake #WEARAMASK

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

We have some trollish people who believe it is their right to have their dogs leave ginormous piles on the sidewalks, set off illegal fireworks in the entire month preceding the 4th of July, and run around unmasked. And then on top of that we have a whole 'nother set of people who think that rules and regs shouldn't apply to illegals bc "they're just trying to make a living". It's a weird mix; one must tread carefully bc people will get their backs up over anything. ----------- Pity would be no more, If we did not MAKE men poor - William Blake #WEARAMASK

Except for our May scorcher ... with temps above 100F, feeling like we went directly from winter to late summer ... the weather here in the flatlands of LA has been pretty moderate. As I recall, about this time last year (or possibly a little later in the year) BC has 200+ fires all at once. THAT was bad. By comparison 38 fires doesn't sound too terrible. I guess there will always be a "fire season" in the West. It's like the drought monitor- there will always be a drought somewhere. The only questions are "where, and how bad"? ----------- Pity would be no more, If we did not MAKE men poor - William Blake #WEARAMASK

White college graduates would not be very happy, however. Especially if they found out you used any seasoning. Do Right, Be Right. :) Nah, they'd call it "cultural appropriation". Yanno my family ethnicity is Polish, but I wouldn't get all huffy if perogi and czarnina and krusczyki suddenly became popular and everyone started cooking it, especially if some restaurant made a version almost as good as grandma's and I could buy some! I don't get what this "cultural appropriation" issue is all about. I would feel that if someone adopted an ethnic food, dress, music, or expression, it would be a compliment. If someone calls their team the "Vikings" or the "Redskins" it's not becaue they're trying to portray their team as a bunch of cowardly weaklings. If someone calls their brand Uncle Ben's or Aunt Jemima's it's not as if they're trying to say their product sucks. I think ppl should lighten up and realize that honest imitation is a sincere form of flattery. ----------- Pity would be no more, If we did not MAKE men poor - William Blake #WEARAMASK

Quote:I don't think he ever said it, but I got the idea he wasn't too fond of Polish cuisine since we never ate it otherwise. Which was good for me, because I always found Polish food to be about as bland and tasteless as anything I ever ate. No offense, especially if you make it all the time. I mean, maybe you cook it better too. Who's to say?
