Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

The biggest drop in greenhouse gas emissions came in 2008 due to Bush the Deux crashing the global economy. After that - which was Obama, if anyone is counting - they just kept on rising with nary a bobble.

And if democrats don't do any different, how are they any better?

Nice. Chance of rain on Saturday down in the single digits now.

It's too "cold" around these parts right now though. Normally I'd be thrilled about highs in the mid 70's in August that don't come with a ton of rain, but I got a lot of drying time for stuff ahead of me this week.

I haven't been outside yet, but I'm thinking I might have gotten up early this morning in vain. After power washing until 6:30PM last night and putting however much a 1000PSI washer can put out in 2 1/2 hours, that's a lot of water that needs drying before I can do anything.

I've heard to wait "24 hours" after washing, but I don't think that's a hard rule like the drying times of the products themselves. The crack stuff isn't going to go down quickly, so I'll probably start in the center of the driveway and work my way out to the edges while the sun does its thing. Fortunately, there is 100% sun exposure on the driveway until around 2PM.

My only concern at this point is being able to put a 2nd layer of the topcoat down before rain comes. Ideally, I would have already had a 1st coat of all the crack sealers down today, but even if I was able to do it almost immediately after power washing there was no way I felt like doing anything when I wrapped up yesterday.

Wednesday: 1st coat of crack sealers and pothole filler (I can put all the pothole stuff down immediately).

Thursday: 2nd coat of crack sealers.

Friday: 1st top coat.

Saturday: 2nd top coat?

I dunno.... Maybe if I get it down early enough and shave a few hours off each day in between coats so that 2nd top coat is going down immediately Saturday morning as soon as the dew is dry.

Assuming we're free of rain up through Saturday, which is a pretty bold assumption to make 4 days out in our area, there is now a 30% chance of thunderstorms all morning and afternoon on Sunday.

I'd rather not be putting that 2nd top coat on after a rain storm. I wouldn't want to power wash a fresh coat, and it's quite obvious that there are some severe drainage issues in that area which contributed to the current state of the driveway and it wont' take long for some mud to end up on it, especially now since I did all that edging and exposed some high-earth above the sides of the blacktop. I'll be able to alleviate most of those when the gutters are up, although I may want to consider some sort of system that allows for drainage on both sides of the driveway in between the blacktop and the grass out to the street.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

About two months of a lower dose of meds and I had to deal with a side effect today. Felt slightly dizzy while I was out for my walk. Not fun.

Well....

Today didn't exactly go as planned.

Seems I underbought on materials and the job is going to be a lot bigger than I thought it would. The trowel stuff only did 1/3 of the stuff I needed it to do, and only went about 1/6th of what it was rated to do on the pail. To be fair though, it wasn't only filling a crack, but the surrounding ground on both sides that sloped down into it. The bottled stuff that does the smaller cracks didn't fare much better, although it went a bit further than I expected after the performance of the other stuff. The pothole filler is just that... pothole filler. It's not going to do what I wanted it to do at the base of the driveway.

I was kind of exhausted by 2:00PM after a few long days and a little bummed about the situation, so I just wrapped it up early for the day to get my mind right.

Going to go to the store first thing and buy about $80 more worth of stuff. I was tempted to just cut some corners at the curb, but I know I won't forgive myself for not seeing this through. Just going to have to resign myself to the fact that this won't go nearly as quickly as I had hoped, it's going to cost about 50% more than I thought it would, and I'll probably be power washing again before I can get the topcoat(s) on.

Oh well. It will still look great when I get it done. :)

And for added fun it is back a bit this morning. Not as bad as yesterday, thank goodness. Was going to do something that requires I get on a bus but I don't think I will. I can do the same thing within walking distance. Just to be on the safe side.

Stupid side effect. Will let my doc know about it next week. Haven't dealt with this since I started taking them.

Pulled the box of record albums out from under my computer table to move them. And I was so surprised by what I found. I found the Hogan's Heroes album that has the actors singing songs from WWII. I am so happy.

Also found that I have still about 5 45s I kept.

I decided not to do anything again today. Needed another day off I guess. Not going to beat myself up over it.

Went out by sundown and saw the fruits of my labor yesterday. Pothole fixes look good. Everything I trowled in is still pretty filled in and didn't suffer much shrinkage. The bottled stuff shrinks quite a bit more though. I'll probably end up putting a 2nd coat on everything.

Oh well. I'll have to end up power washing again before the final coat, but it's probably not the worst thing in the world to do so. Shouldn't take half as long next time and I'll only be cleaning up whatever sludge makes its way onto the drive after some rain. Who knows? Maybe the rain will miss us this weekend and I'll luck out.

To the store tomorrow and back to work. I'm going to eventually have to wrap up the facia on the house and get those gutters up. Gotta have that done by the end of September for sure.

On a side note, I really do like the way the bottled stuff dries after I troweled it in. It conforms to the driveway around it much better than the troweled stuff does, and I don't think it will be very apparent under the topcoat like the troweled stuff will.

I think we can all claim "Murphy's Law" as a middle name at times. I know I've had my share of plans go south.

Glad your drive looks better. Even up here if you are dealing with gutters you have to get it done before September comes. Wonder what kind of Fall we'll get up here?

Had another run in with some dizziness today. Had to modify some of my plans today because of it. Luckily I could. Wonder what tomorrow will bring on that front.

Think when I go to see my doctor next Tuesday, she'll be getting an earful about this side effect and the slim possibility that I had a small seizure when I was in a store on Wednesday.

Well with lowering the dose and if they have actually stopped working then it was possible. But if it was it was so small I was the only one who noticed it. I seemed as I remember to have stopped walking, my vision went black but it only lasted I'm not sure how long and I had to figure out what I was doing after it. That's what happens with my seizures. I just stop for however long and when I come back, I have to figure things out because I am a little disorientated.

Thanks. I'll see what she has to say when I go back.

our dear daughter had intractable seizures as a result brain injury at birth, and then developed a rare seizure syndrome that I had to dx myself, so I think I've been thru a lot of that.

Just OOC, how many seizure meds have you been trialed on, and -more importantly- what sort of testing are they willing to do to see if your seizures have returned?

The problem is that you aren't the most reliable witness to what's happening to you, since you go offline when a seizure starts, so you aren't able to tell the doctor how long it lasted or what symptoms you might have demonstrated at the start. For example, dd's eyes would always strongly deviate to the left, indicating a right-hand focus. If you're having seizures in your sleep ... how would you know? (Seizures often occur when falling asleep, waking up, or transitioning between sleep stages.)

If you had a tumor removed, you probably have focal seizures, not true "absence" seizures. The medications for focal seizures and absence seizures are different, so it's important to know which ones you're having. There are a couple of ways to differentiate- one of them is an in-office EEG. If the EEG shows abnormalities in a specific location, you can be pretty sure that what's happening are focal seizures. But if the in-office EEG shows nothing, sometimes the only way to tell what's happening is an in-hospital video EEG monitoring to capture an EEG and video evidence right at the start.

But just to be on th safe side, if I were your doctor I'd order an MRI with contrast, just to be sure that nothing physical was going on.

Anyway, I wish you the best of luck. It's no fun hunting around for the right treatment. DD was trialed on a dozen anti-convulsants, the ketogenic diet, steroids, IVIG, and a bunch of other things before a researcher-clinician took an interest in her case and tried something very different. But persistence paid off; eventually we found the answer for her, and I believe there is one for you, too.

I had a grand mal after the tumour surgery which I do remember a good bit of. Yuck!. So I was on seizure medication after that and when I got home for 3 months. I don't remember the name of it now. When I didn't experience any at home I was taken off of it.

I was CT scanned 6 months after surgery and that was clear.

I would say that over the course of when I was experiencing them, I was on at least 3 different medications. One I remember was Depekane and the other two elude me now.

My route to diagnosis was through my eye doctor. I told her what would happen with my eyes and she sent me to an opthomalogist who put drops in my eyes and ran a few more tests. She said I was having seizures and sent me back to my family doctor, who then sent me to a neurologist. Nothing turned up on the first EEG but I came back to his office a few months later after a couple of things happened at home. He ran another EEG and there were the spikes.

The neurologist used to run an EEG on me once a year. But I haven't had an EEG since after my mother died and I was told the seizures were back. I was so caught up in looking after my mum that I was ignoring me.

Well, I am my only witness right now and I just report what I remember. If say something were to happen at my part time job or with my mah jong group then I would ask them questions and write it all down to take to my doctor. No, I don't know if I am having them in my sleep.

But I am going to tell my doctor next week what has been happening and we shall see what happens.

YES! THANK GOODNESS!

Though the causes are different I've had episodes of dizziness so strong they knocked me off my feet, as well as protracted milder dizziness. It was diagnosed as 'benign positional vertigo', which I was told tends to get worse as one gets on in years. But there was nothing 'benign' about it as far as I'm concerned! It made me uncertain about walking anywhere, driving, being away from home or work ... because I never knew when it would strike, or escalate into a serious attack if I was already having a lower-grade episode.

Anyway, I mention that because I do sympathize with the uncertainty one gets; or the outright disability it causes when it's so bad you can't even stand upright. (Fortunately, I've never been dizzy enough to throw up.)

Glad you're feeling better, Brenda.

Take it nice and slow until you see your doctor, kay?

So another $110 in supplies and working until the sun went down and I still didn't get the cracks in the driveway sealed. I'm going to need 3 more bottles. Those alligator cracks are the worst.

(In case somebody doesn't know what I mean by that, here's a good image):

I decided to do the stuff by the curb that was severely alligatored too. The bottles don't go very far on that, I'm afraid, and down by the curb the asphalt that remains is pretty rough so rather than just filling in the cracks I'm also giving the surface a good base coat before the 1st topcoat goes on as well.

So far, I've put 15 gallons of product on the driveway with a trowel. I've even taken the gallon bottles when I'm done and cut them open and scraped up the good amount that most people probably just throw away.

I haven't made up my mind if I'm going to do a 2nd coat on the crack sealer or not. It certainly could use it if I want a uniform finish. I just don't know if I want to keep pouring money into this and working all week next week on it in between rain too.

Unless we get really lucky, there's going to be about 1/2" of rain and thunderstorms on Monday, which is going to suck since I won't be done by then either way and I will have to power wash again before the topcoat goes down.

At this point, if I do 2 coats of the topcoat, I'm about $400 into it. I could probably easily turn that into $500 if I hit the cracks a 2nd time.

Not going to make my mind up tonight. Time for a shower and chow and a little bit of relaxation in the A/C.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

I appreciate your conundrum. Let me ask you a question: Are you trying to get your driveway to look uniformly "new", or are you trying to stick the pieces together so it doesn't get worse?

I think maybe "sticking the pieces together" is a good goal, more doable and less money than trying to make the driveway look new. As long as you can keep the pieces together and prevent deterioration, I think you're well ahead of the game!

OTOH if all you're trying to do IS stick the pieces together and seal the cracks, and it's till proving to be a lot more expensive and difficult than you anticipated... well, you have my sympathy! But I agree with BRENDA, it will be better in the long run.

Well, I finally FINALLY finished reviewing the two major legal documents that I've been sort of stalling on for a while.

It's important, it's difficult, and it's full of concepts I don't understand. Precatory? Memo of intent? But I think I found all of the bugs and have written down all of the questions that I need to. I just wish hubby had participated. I get so wrapped up in details I sometimes miss a big picture.

After that, three smaller documents (well, six, but three are duplicates of the other three) and I get to finalize the dispute that we had with hubby's retirement board. Then after that, I need to nail MY retirement board down IN WRITING on another important matter.

God, I hate paperwork. It sucks. And the funny thing is, that was the majority of my job before I retired from being final QA of our group. I thought I was supposed to be retiring, but it seems like I'm still working. Doing the task that I dislike, but am far less qualified for than my real job.

Just as an aside, I walk out with the dog into the backyard for her before-bed pee break. Tonight, I spotted the skunk before she did, so I called her back rather harshly and stuffed her back into the house while I chased the skunk out of our yard. But I DID get to see how it's getting in and out: it is really squeezing under the gate. But if it eats too many more fallen avocados, I don't think it will fit!

This animal has a HANDSOME ginormous fluffy tail. And I don't mind skunks, really, I just don't want the dog to get sprayed. So skunks are welcome into the yard- just not when the dog is there!

So another $110 in supplies and working until the sun went down and I still didn't get the cracks in the driveway sealed. I'm going to need 3 more bottles. Those alligator cracks are the worst.

Well sticking the pieces together and sealing the cracks is kind of the same thing. Unlike on a heavy traffic road, the pieces pretty much stay where they are on a driveway. They just alligator like that over the years maily because of the rough winters we get in these parts. Water finds a way in, water turns to ice, ice breaks the asphalt. The more out of control you allow it to get, the worse it gets every year.

The driveway was far from perfect when I moved in, and this high water table does me absolutely no favors, but it's just another learning experience for me. I could have done this years ago when I first bought the house and kept up with it every 3 or 4 years with a new topcoat for about the same money I am paying right now and probably 1/10th the work.

Most of the damage is at the street, so I need to find out when they're going to re-do the roads and push the issue that I need new curbs. My neighbors down the other side of the block got new ones the summer I moved in. They were just finished wrapping up the newly paved roads the day I moved here. But they didn't do my curbs, and they're quite deteriorated. And it's that stupid super high curb at the end of the driveway that everyone bottoms out on.

Hopefully the work I'm doing down there now is just a temporary fix for a few years and they can just quickly redo the the end of the driveway on the easement after putting in a proper driveway curb.

I'm buying 5 more bottles this morning. I know I need 2 1/2 for what's left. I'm going to double up on all of the cracks that aren't alligatored that aren't by the street, and possibly the patch that alligatored halfway if there is enough left to do it too. I'm not going to put a 2nd coat on the stuff by the street, otherwise it will take another day and probably another $70 or so, and that's the area that is most likely to just get ruined again no matter what I do because there's no proper drainage.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

I've been there with paperwork and I hate it too.

At least you found out how the skunk is getting into your yard. Can you lower the gate anymore? That might stop it from squeezing under it and eating anymore of your avocados.

Agreed on the dog, but if YOU get too close to the critter, you to could end up on the receiving end of eau de skunk. Don't think you or anyone in the house wants that any more than the dog. Please be careful when dealing with this critter.

I chased it away by shining a bright flashlight on it, throwing rotten avocados and making noise. It didn't want to move at first but by the third avocado landing in its direction it finally decided to leave. I do't think I ever got closer than 12 feet. Can skunks spray that far? I hope not!!!

Think I knew about the lights and the noise. Heard that will work on raccoons too. Don't know how far their spray reaches. That's something you would have to look up in case it returns.

Skunks can spray up to 15 feet. Unless you had a strong wind behind you, your husband might not be letting you in the house right now if things turned south.

Skunks actually don't like spraying though. You'd get a whole lot of warning first before it did, and it's not very likely it ever would unless you had it trapped and it had nowhere to get away.

Got the cracks sealed and the oil primer down.

I'm still going to have to wait a few days now. The biggest and longest crack was filled with stuff only rated for 1" and I can already see the telltale signs that as it shrinks it's going to split. I can't put topcoat down while that's going on, and I'll have to wait until it happens so I can re-patch it.

I bought 6 bottles today and only needed 3 for the job, so I should have plenty to do all the wrap up when everything is sufficiently dry.

I also bought a bunch more topcoat online today since the sale was over and they were almost sold out. I can return it if I choose to only go with one coat, minus a $2 processing fee. But if I didn't buy it today it would have been $9 or $10 more per bucket.

We'll see if I do any more work on it tomorrow. I might only be putting the 2nd bottle of oil primer down. Monday is a literal coin flip for thunderstorms now, so nothing should be put down that I would be afraid would wash off before it set.

Fingers crossed that it's only the 1/2" of rain in the forecast and hopefully much less than that. There's zero chance I'm going to power wash again, so if I have a mess to clean up all I have is a blower and a garden hose to prep for the topcoat.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

Skunks for the most part are extremely tolerant, and only spray as a very last resort - or if they're young and get startled.

My dog Mooch tried to play with an adult skunk once, and it stamped its little front feet and turned and trundled away FOUR TIMES (with my dog racing around to the front to bark and play-bow each time) before the skunk finally let her have it. And even then it was only a very little spritz well-aimed to above the top of the nose.

I like skunks far better than raccoons. They're much less destructive and aggressive, and as a bonus they catch and kill small rodents.

That said like any mammal they can carry rabies.

As an aside, AFAIK the one mammal that isn't a big rabies threat are possums because, apparently, as marsupial mammals their low body temperature isn't as hospitable to the virus.

Glad I got up early and finished the 1st coat of everything by early afternoon yesterday.

Woke up this morning and now there is over 50% chance of thunderstorms today AND tomorrow. As of last night the chance of rain today was well under 10%.

I think I'm done on the driveway until at least those dual storm systems down south are gone. I don't think anybody knows what they're doing right now because of them.

Hopefully the stuff I laid on real thick, like in between the end of the driveway and the curb, doesn't get too damaged. I'm sure it's not "dry" yet.

Sweet. 55% chance of thunderstorms today and nary a drop.

The problem is, there's 52% chance tomorrow too...

I think I might just put the first topcoat down on Tuesday, or even on Monday if things wildly change and it doesn't look like rain. Only a 7% chance on Tuesday and Wednesday, and temps reaching the mid 90's.

There are still two spots that I laid stuff down way too thick that I think are going to end up cracking as they dry more, but in terms of the percentage of the surface area of the entire driveway it's probably only less than 1/2 of 1%. I've got enough to put two topcoats on, so after I get the first coat down I can just wait out the entire drying process, patch up whatever residual stuff could use some patching, then throw down the 2nd top coat.

The cracks I sealed look wonderful now that everything has dried. It's probably impossible to make a driveway that was in this state of disrepair look brand new without tearing it out and putting in a whole new one, but I think it's going to look as good as it possibly ever could for less than $500.

And at this point I'm somewhat fairly convinced that it could look good for many years to come and this repair work has done a lot more than just make the place more aesthetically pleasing. If I'm still here in a few years and haven't gotten the entire place ready to sell, I'll make sure to spend $100 on another round of topcoat and it should last until I do sell it.

I can't wait to see what it's going to look like.

Jeepers Creepers...

I should have gotten an A/C years ago. Damn thing costs nearly nothing to run compared to what I thought it would.

I haven't had a single uncomfortable day in my house this summer and the bill was only $10 more this month than it was last year at this time when I was running that blower out the attic window 12 hours per night and still hitting the 80's inside with nothing pulling the humidity out of the air (and it was hotter this year).

Any new owner/family would need a better solution, since only one room directly benefits from the A/C and it requires having a beast of a fan making a ton of noise that isn't ideal for talking to other people when it's going off, but it's perfectly suitable for my needs since I don't sleep in the frigid bedroom and I'm usually out working all day while it's on. It's rather novel to be able to walk around my house with clothes on in the summer and not be sweating all over the place.

I don't think I'll be paying for a new central air system before I sell, but maybe I'll throw this A/C in with the house and get a new one when I get into a smaller house. If that thing can cool this house, it's going to have zero problems keeping my next house very comfortable without breaking the bank.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

It sounds like you're making good progress on the driveway, SIX! And glad to know that the AC is keeping you comfortable.

At this end of the country, the weather has cooled off: today was "only" 95degF. I decided that I can't outwait the weather, and now that the biggest (and worst) part of the legal stuff has been reviewed (I emailed my suggested draft edits to the lawyer today, after several other involved people took a look at it) I feel like I've been released to do yardwork again. So I planned on just a few short chores for dd and myself: I picked up fallen avocados while dd swept the walkways. But after that short (20 minute) task I was so knocked out I took a 1-hour nap!

Anyway, the temperature will be going down, then up, then down again, but if I break up the work into small tasks I can make progress. The garden is definitely progressing to fall: the cucumbers are done, and the zucchini is quitting (FINALLY!), I have two more watermelons and several orange-fleshed honeydew melons to harvest as we need fruit. Tomatoes have been ripening steadily, but the tomato vine is already losing its leaves and preparing to wind down. The borage has been blooming for a week, the sunflowers JUST started blooming (late planting!) and do they look lovely! I originally put them in for hubby- they're his favorite flower- but they say "late summer" to me so emblematically that I think I'll plant them every year.

I'm already planning to dig up the zucchini to prepare an asparagus bed, and picking out the winter vegetables and flowers for the new pollinator bed that I'm planning. I have some plants picked out for the front yard to fill in the bare spots, and hubby is happily (if sweatily) ensconced in the garage workshop, dimensioning wood (using hand tools) for a platform bed.

Tomorrow I will finish up getting ONE MORE piece of info for our tax guy then I can call them and drop off the paperwork. The issue was that the retirement board fucked up hubby's distribution for 2018 AND 2019... anyway, the board has agreed to reimburse us for any additional tax liability that they caused us, so I need to have the taxes calcuated based on what a correct distribution would have been versus what they actually did...

After that I have a few smallish estate planning items to review/revise and then I'll be done with all of the heavy-duty legal lifting. Looking forward to that! After that, I really WILL feel free to tackle some other big project!

Paperwork sucks... Good to hear you're almost done with it, for now anyways.

At least where you're at it never really turns to winter so there's always time to work outside. Time is ticking in these parts. I got lucky last year and was able to work outside until the first or second week of November, but that's not likely to happen two years in a row. I still have to finish the driveway, patch my foundation, wrap up the overhang and the columns and put the soffit and new fascia back up so I can have the gutter guy do his thing.

I'm afraid that putting legit windows in the porch so I can start working on that is probably going to have to wait until next spring. Going to have to leave the plastic up for another winter, but at least it's still up strong and I don't have to spend a whole day doing that again.

I'm so mad right now...

Freakin' weather is all over the map. Just like yesterday morning the sky is clear blue with a high in the mid 90's but it's more than 50% chance of rain.

Tuesday and Wednesday were both 7% chance as of yesterday, but now tomorrow is showing 18% with 8% on Wednesday.

And that's just one one weather site.

If I go to the other one for a second opinion, it's only 20% today with 20% tomorrow and 10 on Wednesday.

I literally had around 10 days with zero rain and the grass is turning brown. It's not like we couldn't use it, but the amount of cleanup I'm going to have to do with just a little rain before putting down the first topcoat really sucks if it does happen.

And now I'm not sure if I'll even be able to feel safe putting it down tomorrow with a 1/5 chance of rain. If I do, I have to have it done somewhat early too, since the pail says have it completed no later than 3PM since morning dew and such can screw up the finish just as bad as rain can. That's probably not really a factor here if we don't get any rain since all of your hot weather seems to have blown over here for the next 5 days, but the 10 day forecast is miserable here now without a single day in single digits for rain chances and around 25% chance on average.

And the worst part is that every five minutes the forecast changes. I could decide to take a chance later tomorrow if the storm system passes and chances are low overnight only to find out by the time I come back inside that they've upped the chance of rain Wednesday from 10% to 60%.

:(

I was thinking about the A/C thing...

I probably need to throw anything I read about fuel costs on my heater in the winter right out the window since my furnace is ancient.

The blower for my furnace is probably nearly identical to the one I was using to cool off the house last year. The electricity costs to run the damn thing are pretty insane, and I used roughly the same amount of electricity in January and Feburary as I did the last two months with the A/C on an average of 10 to 12 hours per day, along with a 200watt fan to spread it. (Meaning that using the supposedly "cheap" natural gas solution, I pay a summer A/C bill on top of a winter gas bill).

I almost wonder if I'd be better off using electric heating solutions to do most of my house heating in the winter this year, and relying on that ancient furnace only to pick up the slack. It's actually possible that it might cost me less money to keep the house warmer than I usually do if I try it.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

Lucky you. I think you're getting the nice weather we had last week, Brenda.

Well... two days in a row where it was more than a coin flip chance of rain and as far as I know there hasn't been a single drop. One site says no rain all night, the other one shows at least a 10% chance every hour overnight.

But if it holds until around 7 or 8AM tomorrow, I should be able to blow off the driveway and put the first topcoat down safely without having to worry that much about any rain in the next 36+ hours after it's done.

It would be too much to hope that it would be dry for another week looking at the forecast though, so I will end up having to figure out how to wash and clean it again before I can make the final patches and put the 2nd coat on.

It should probably be alright. It's not like people all over the country don't do this all the time, and as far as I know nobody has figured out how to control the rain yet.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

Back at my doc's today to get the results of the second bit of blood work she wanted done. She was pretty happy. My liver function is now back to normal. It was my seizure meds causing the problem. The level I should be at is 2,700mg but I am actually under that at 2,540mg. So all is rosy. She wants to do a recheck in three months.

Right now I would say anything is possible with the wacky weather this year.

But for right now I will take dry over wet. Maybe we'll get a nice, dry and sunny September this year. That would be welcome.

I hope you can get all that work done on your drive Jack.

IS she planning on testing for the possible breakthrought seizures that you may be having? Did she even address them? Or is she content to stick her head in the sand?

Sorry if I sound a little pissed, but I am. This sounds like the half-assed treatment my other Canadian friend (in Ontario) is getting, and like the half-assed treatment WE used to get from our half-assed HMO. (He has prostate cancer but they refuse to operate.)

Yeah, I know... properly diagnosing and treating people sometimes takes more than the average amount of money. About 30% of the time the first drug that a doctor tries DOESN'T WORK. (That is the sad reality of pharmacology!) Sometimes it requires ... what is that word ... thinking ... on the part of the doctor. They need to have a very well-grounded understanding of what is happening, not just a lookup table of possible diagnoses and treatments, with one eye on the lookup table and one eye on the bottom line.

Anyway. I hope that what you had was just your body's temporary adjustment to lower seizure meds, not the beginning of a trend. (But in my experience once you lose control of seizures it's hard to get it back again, and things tend to go from bad to worse until you find something that really works.) IF the breakthrough seizures ... or whatever they are ... continue, does the doctor ... OR YOU ... have a threshold beyond which something will be done? It's important that your doctor, and you, have established a "line in the sand" that -once crossed- will precipitate further action.

Truthfully, I didn't mention what happened in the store because looking back I am now not sure. I know I was heading for a yawn at that time and that could have been another reason that I stopped, and my eyes may have just closed. I did mention the dizzy spells and she thought I had had a seizure, so if I had said yes then the route would have been the neurologist.

I will keep a close eye on things and if I have any more episodes like that, I will go back in before November and tell her as well as keep a list of what happened and where.

If anything else does happen most likely I will be sent back to a neurologist at the office I was going to and they will run an EEG. Then there will be the discussion about most likely a different medication.

So for right now it is just wait and see.

I took the risk and did it.

Looked really sketchy this morning and I was second guessing myself the first few hours, but I got that topcoat down and it looks like 29 hours with a 0% chance of rain now and early Tuesday morning we raise to 1% chance and top out at about 7% all day. Hopefully we stay dry until Friday at least.

It looks fantastic!

Hope it's dry for you too, Brenda.

Oh... and I hope you have better health insurance than HMO insurance down here.

Great! It sounds like you have a plan! I like the idea of keeping a diary. I'm trying to get dear daughter to do that so we can address her IBS or wherever the heck she has, but it's too much trouble for her.
