Back in from my walk and still dry which is good as I forgot my umbrella. It is thinking about raining though.

I think it's supposed to get over 60 degrees here on Wednesday.

Oh, she's in an entirely different weather system than you, most of the time. Your warm weather usually comes up from the Gulf of Mexico, from SW to NE. She's waaaay too far north, in the wrong direction, and with whole mountain range between her and Gulf. The only weather you share is when a blast of Arctic air swoops down and nails both of you. But I hope you got to enjoy the warm weather!

Looks like I'll be helping out somebody else on Wednesday instead of wrapping up what's left of the rest of the neighborhood's leaves that are still on my lawn when it's 60 degrees, so I won't be enjoying it like I thought I would. Oh well...

We didn't get any warm weather out of that tornado, really. It dropped to 60 degrees at midnight overnight, but was in the mid-40's both days surrounding it.

Hopefully we don't have any tornadoes on Wednesday because of this too.

Cabinet is done.

I haven't filled it with anything really, yet. I'm going to be pretty selective about what goes back in now that it's all finished. The rest of the stuff that was in there will either need another home, will be donated or will be thrown out.

I do have my home phone and electronics charging up top and a few of my closet lights charging in the cabinet below as we speak though.

Got a lot of stuff cleaned up, but I think I'm going to call it a day now.

It should be no problem having this place in top shape before my brother comes as long as I don't start tearing apart one of the closets in the meantime.

Sounds like great work, SIX!

But too bad your warm-weather day got hijacked.

*****

Looks super-stormy over here. Hasn't started raining yet, but the clouds are dark, dark, dark. Radar says storm is at Oxnard already. Managed to get some weeding in yesterday, but tomorrow I'll be inside all day. Time to put out the "rain gage" (which is really just a rectangular plastic pen holder, but it works!)

I actually got quite a bit more cleaning done. Still have to tackle the re-org, but it's more progress anyhow.

I also got my current rebates sorted and ready to go, although I only mail those out on the last day of the earliest receipt in case I have any new ones pop up.

I think one of my LED closet lights crapped out. It was acting pretty jenky from day one and now it doesn't seem to want to light up. It's way past the return date now, so maybe I'll see if there's a guide online for trying to fix it. It's probably just a loose wire or something. These things aren't really all that complex.

Time for dinner.

And here I am anxiously waiting for that rain to show up! Like a lot of storms, the closer it got, the thinner it got. But raining in north LA now.

Any timenow, rain ...!

Was woken up around 3am with rain pelting all the windows in my place but got back to sleep.

Woke up at a reasonable time to snow. Not a lot but enough to make it messy on my walk. Think there is some rain mixed with it. Have to take my time walking.

Sun is out now so that snow and the ice under it will start to melt some. Got a bit more snow while I was out but not much.

Just enough to make things messy.

I have clogs that -I learned- are very slippery in wet weather. I went down, HARD!, twice (like I didn't learn the first time) and wrenched my shoulder and knee and banged up my hands, nose, and elbow. Take your time. Hurrying is not worth that kind of damage!

Well, either there's something truly hinky about where I place my "rain gage" or this storm overachieved. I just checked the rain gage from a distance and it looks like we got somewhere between 2-3" of rain. Not bad! There is still a little more to the storm so I won't bring in and measure until later, but it looks like a goodly amount.

Altho next time I should place it a little farther from the house. Maybe I'm collecting "rain bounce" off the roof, bc my totals are so often at odds with official gages in the area.

Just checked the total: 1/16" shy of 2".

And for a change, pretty close to the official totals in my area.

South Bay got shorted on rain, but the foothills got a lot. Good for us!

I was very careful and I had my boots on. Since it was dry on my way back, I used my umbrella like a cane. Hoping for better conditions tomorrow.

Winds are scary here tonight. And they're not supposed to let up until 9AM.

I really feel for everybody who's about 150 miles west of me and about halfway through the upper part of the country though.

I hope they don't go through a repeat of what happened the other day. It doesn't look good.

I see we're in for unsettled weather for the next ten days, and perhaps up to 3 inches of rain. If that's true, add the 2 inches we got midmonth and the 1 inch late October that'll be 6 whole inches.

Don't know why I never made this before, but I made vegetable beef soup today. Kinda winged it, but I used chuck, carrots, celery, (no onions bc of daughter), potato, homemade tomato sauce, okra (leftover frozen), bay, peppercorns, salt, and chicken broth and according to the family it turned out great! The secret is, I simmered the cubed meat in broth with bay and peppercorns for 2 hours b4 adding the vegetables, so the meat came out very tender and the broth very flavorful.

I've found out that - supposedly - Hodo Soy organic yuba sheets are available locally (at Whole Paycheck). If so, I'd love to make something that's thicker than chicken noodle soup, and not 'gloppy' like chicken noodle casserole.

Chicken chunks, carrots, celery, onion, and peas, with a tad of tomato paste for umami, some boiled-down chicken broth lightly thickened, and yuba 'noodles'.
